If a Toyota is assembled in Tennessee, is it foreign? The steering wheel would be replaced with a tire , but is it an import or domestic? I can tell you that I have owned my last domestically made car. Unions have killed the US automakers to where cars and trucks almost cannot be bought by the average joe and the quality sucks. When US automakers put out the quality of Honda/Toyota/Nissan, I might buy again. Not now. If I get exceptional service from a shop, I will buy there and consider any additional cost as paying for the service. However, I don't believe in buying locally when there is nothing to be gained. That is why I don't support the continuous bail out of the airlines by our Government. There are domestic airlines making a killing right now with exceptional service and price. Yet Delta, American, etc. want to sit back and suck tax dollars away because it is impossible to compete. Model your business correctly and it will be--you don't need 35 1/4 empty flights going to New York within 5 minutes of each other on the same airline. I try to support my little pro shops as much as possible. Big purchases usually come down to availability of what I want though, and it usually comes down to a big supplier in those cases. I try to buy localy(US at least) however I do buy form other countries provided I don't have a personal problem with that country...Canada England etc are fine... I order all kinds of sporting equipment over the net instead of from my own local sporting shops. My question to them is, why is it cheaper for me to buy it out of state and have it shipped in and still be cheaper than my own local pro shop. I have ordered several guns the same way, after paying shipping and ffl transfer, it was still cheaper than whay they were willing to sell it for... go figure, I'm not against someone making a profit, but be realistic with it........ You can get surplus french military weapons, never fired and only dropped twice! Richyrich, It would depend on the amount of $ saved and the quality comparison. If its the same item, it would depend on the shipping time and how fast I needed it, the money saved, and if the local dealer ticked me off lately.
