Cornell University called and left a message on my machine. They want to include my opinions in a "Deer Study" that they are doing. They mentioned that they got my name "From a list of registered hunters" which I believe they aquired from license files. They are doing the study on the deer herd and since I lived in Oneida county its hard not to believe that the study is not related to the recent outbreak of CWD found here.

I'll let you know more about what the study was about in the morning when I call them back....it seems they called while I was out in the wind and rain attempting to Turkey hunt and excercising my license priveleges.

I finished the Phone survey this morning. It is not completed as of yet and is entirely random including a large group of people. Licensed hunters in the state as well as non-hunters are being included.

Generally it was about where I hunted and if it was in Oneida county, if I knew what CWD was and opinions on CWD, if the CWD outbreak had changed my familys opinion on the eating of deer meat, and about any information i have heard about that was provided by the DEC. When asked...I told them that I knew that it was a: "Transmissable Spongiform Encephalopathy"....they didnt ask any more of those type questions after that.

They asked if,when, and where i found out about the CWD outbreak and I had to respond the REALTREE.COM FORUMS and a link provided in a post there to the DEC website cool.gif

The survey only lasted a few minutes and generally sounded to me like they wanted to know how much the public knew, if anything, about what was going on with the recent finding of CWD in Oneida county here in New York.

Some of that sounds like a survey that was being taken by the DEC at Avon's National Hunting and Fishing Day about 3 years ago (Livingston County), before CWD was even discovered here. The survey sounded like the DEC wanted to know what the public knew about CWD and what their attitudes were about it.
