Swamphunter
I have had raccoons get into my garbage cans three nights out of seven this week. I have tried everything to even bungee cording the lids down. Man this is frustrating! Nothing I love more than picking up rotten garbage....! I am now the proud owner of a I will then " relocate " them to another location What do I use to bait them into the trap...(and don't say my garbage)
VermontHunter
Re: Its on...its ON! Ken, we have the same trap, and it works great on skunks as well... ,,,,I use sewitt as bait and they seem to love the stuff..... Be sure to check on your game laws, to be sure it's legal to transport and relocate wild game in your state,,,,it's illegal here in Vermont, so unfortunately we have to shoot the critters and bury them accordingly.... Happy trapping man, coons can make a big mess can't they.....

Jeramie
Re: Its on...its ON! That there would make me mad too! God luck nailing those critters. They will make a mess of things QUICK. We use to use sardines to catch them but we never set up around cats. Take some pics if you trap some!

slughunter
Re: Its on...its ON! marshmallows and hotdogs. tie the hotdog to the lever and so when it is trying to get it off, it makes the trap go off.

Swamphunter
Re: Its on...its ON! Well, since I am waiting for the trap to arrive by UPS...I decided to have a bit of fun with the coons. I put out my trail camera on the garbage cans to get a little experience with using it. I took my time, went through the process of loading it correctly and getting the settings just right and putting it out. I think the neighbors probably called the psychiatric center on me as they watched me crawl around on the ground on my hands and knees in front of my three garbage cans. I made sure to get the camera to "activate in test mode", at the right spot, (of course its really hard to tell because of the size difference between me an a raccoon). I then switched it to on and went in the house anticipating finally getting a looksee at the bugger who has been the cause of me picking up a total of 7 bags of garbage from 3 nights worth of their effort over a 8 night period. I got up at the break of dawn this morning and looked out my window and did not see any garbage so I got dressed and wandered downstairs and outside at 4:40am (I had to get up for work at 5:30am anyways, and I had recorded American Chopper last night and wanted to watch it before work.) I tip toed through the house so as not to wake the family and went outside to find that the cans were still upright, and the camera had recorded no events. Once I get my trap, I am setting the camera up on the trap and then we will have some fun... Buuuwaaahhhhaaaaaahhhaaaahhhaaaahhhhaaa!!!!! Tominator
Re: Its on...its ON! I have that coon problem once my sweet corn starts coming in . There's a more permanent solution suggested by another forum member if you don't have pets in the area. A simple search and I will provide the recipe if you want.
