Squirrelhunter91
Update: Michigan Dove Season Put On Hold LANSING, MI—Last fall, hunters were given an opportunity to hunt mourning doves in Michigan for the first time in 99 years. Future dove seasons could be at risk, however, as the state Elections Panel last week approved a petition filed by national animal-rights and anti-hunting organizations to place the dove season before state voters on the November 2006 ballot. The action qualifies the issue for the ballot, and means dove hunting seasons scheduled for this fall and 2006 are expected to be canceled pending the outcome of the election. The petition was filed by a group calling itself the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban, which is supported by the Humane Society of the United States. An estimated 3,000 hunters bagged more than 28,000 mourning doves during the state’s hunting season last fall. The season was approved by the state Legislature as part of a compromise with Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Approximately 4 million mourning doves migrate from Michigan each year. Mourning dove hunting is currently legal in 40 states
Tominator
Re: UPDATE: Michigan Dove Season Put On Hold Hmmm, that's too bad. I don't know what I'd do if they outlawed it in Ohio again. The tree huggers are always trying to get it on the ballot. It sure is a fun way to kick off the hunting season.
too_pointer
Re: UPDATE: Michigan Dove Season Put On Hold That really stinks I thought we would have dove hunting for 3 years, and then it would go to the voters. Even though, I hadn't the chance to hunt them, I want others to be able too. I've heard many are raised in Mi. then migrate to other states where they can hunt them, how fair is this I can't wait for our gov.'s term to expire !!!! too_pointer
