Range Estimation Practice

seems that this is a hot topic here.. so i need for all of you to give some examples of where and how you practice your estimations..

do you just shoot at targets at unknown ranges and leave it at that ? or do you do just estimation practice without shooting ?

or a combination of both ?

do you just do it for hunting purposes or are you really into 3D competition and realize that its a must ?

i used to just shoot outside and leave it at that.. but since i got a really good leason taught to me , just lately.. i find i am spending more time on range estimation than shooting....

as i have ssaid i have many parks really close by , that have a lot of varied terrain on them... so i have been hard at it .. when i get about done for a session.. i play this game..

i have to get 5 estimates within 2 yards in a row before im allowed to go home.. you will find that it puts pressure on you as you get closer to the 5 in a row ..

and im not talking about really simple 20 yard estimates , but the hard ones.. for me my problem is over 35 yards.. so i try to pick out nothing but ranges over that.. i mix in a few under that , but mostly its the long ones i need to do..

it gives you some sense of acomplishment when you hit that last one and its a toughy .. plus it ends your session on a positive note..

I just walk out the back of my house and hit the woods. I pick out a tree, estimate it and then shoot it with my range finder.

If I make a mistake I try to figure out where I messed up. Say there was a log in between me and the tree or if my twenty yard estimation was off and so on.

Tony I do the same thing as Kevin.

I have also gone out to the range before with just a range finder. I try work on the long ones more then anything since there the toughest.
