TreeStandBowHunter
Somebody out there thinks I am worth something. Anyway, I just seen today that I have been selected to the next higher rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E-7). Man I am stoked. If you click on the link and scroll down, you will see my name. Miller, MG. My promotion number is 1646 so I will actually pin on the chevrons probably Decmember...January time frame. But you know what, I don't care ....I got selected and that's all that counts I guess after I pin on, I will have to change my signature to "THE GUNNY" TSBH IS GOING TO BE "A GUNNY"

TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Getting Promoted to E-7!!! Dude trust me, I am not OCS material. I am not politically correct enough. Plus it's too late for me anyway unless I went Warrant Officer...but naaaww, I like the term "Gunny" better [ QUOTE ] MILLER MG 0996/0681/1646/E71 [/ QUOTE ] FYI, Of course that's my last name and initials. The next 4 numbers I won't tell you what they are...the next 4 numbers are my MOS code, the next 4 numbers are my promotion number and the last 3 is my geographic location (unit)

Tominator
Re: Getting Promoted to E-7!!! I don't know about the Marines, but in the Coast Guard and Navy, E-7 was the cut off between lower enlisted, and uppper enlisted, and they were called Chief, Senior Chief (E-8), and Master Chief (E-9), and that was as high as you could go unless you were The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, and there was only one of them. Congrats Gunny!
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Getting Promoted to E-7!!! Pretty much the same Tominator. E-7 is a big leap in the ranks. Next would be E-8 (Master Sergeant or First Sergeant) and then it would be E-9 (Master Gunnery Sergeant or Sergeant Major) and then of course you have the one Sergeant Major that is the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. But hey, let's take one rank at a time. But hey, if I ever go on ship now, I get to eat in the good mess and sleep in the nice areas now

[ QUOTE ] if I ever go on ship now, I get to eat in the good mess and sleep in the nice areas now [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I thought about that, didn't know if it was the same for the Corps. Chief's quarters on our ship was sweet. Amidships, own little mess area, one rack per aisle, big locker, and best of all, right next to the AC compressor--man it got cold in there. One of my best friends onboard was a Chief Quartermaster (navigator, not supply dude), and he used to sneak me into the mess area when nobody was around and we'd watch sports on the big TV! TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Getting Promoted to E-7!!! Yeah, it's the same! Man, I did a West Pac back in the early 90's...man that was rough. I was a E-2/E-3 and life sucked. We ate crappy and lived in small quarters. NOT ANY MORE Life should be pretty good now. More responsibilities and authority in which I like anyway , but less crappy details and other things only military folks would understand.
