Jeramie Posted June 27, 2005 Report Share Posted June 27, 2005 I had trouble trying to decide on an Icon for this topic, im not sure how I feel about it. As many of you know I was brought back to a place I ran for 5+ years, this past December. Its been alright and the money is a little better so I enjoy it. Ive also got to visit with a lot of old friends, vendors, customers, etc. I had one sidekick upstairs in the engineering dept since Ive been back. Technically im "Head of engineering and detailing" so he worked for me. He never much enjoyed the owners and had run in's with them on a regular basis. He got a call a couple of weeks ago from a company in Tulsa that wanted to hire him. He went on a few interviews and then had to go to navy training in Lousiana. As soon as he got back they hired him. He was suppose to work through two weeks but when he came in this morning they sent him home, a few weeks ahead of schedule. Suddenly I have more then twice the work load. Im the only one here with the experience, the only one very fluent in AutoCad and the only one thats been detailing over 9-years. Now I have a HUGE load on my shoulders. This can work out for the best. If I prove myself I can pretty much take a major bump upwards in Salary but the load is huge. These guys also believe in working 6-7 days a week and comming in hours early and staying late. I didnt sign on for that part. I had hopes that they would find his replacement but they know the load I can handle so the let on as if I am flying solo unless we get burried. I already have a ton on my mind and this just made it twice as heavy. I just hope this works out to my advantage but its already got me grinding my teeth...... thanks, I needed to vent... Mater of fact they scheduled monthly meetings on Saturdays and had lunch delivered at the conference room for each monthly meeting. 50 to 60 hour work weeks were the norm. About 6 months into that I told my buddy I could do this job with this kind of load for about 5 years or so before I burnt out. I was just about right too. I'm glad all I have to do is the engineering on our projects which lately have been rather challenging. robk Posted June 28, 2005 Report Share Posted June 28, 2005 Re: Big Step at the Office. jeramie you be watchful man they can mess you up in a big way if you let them. the strees can cause you to lose it and you might end up wishing you had spoken up early and told them that it is temporary and you need the help and time off for your family man. you forget that sweet wife of yours and your off working allt he time she isn't goingto take kindly to that and that will definatley put a big strain on at home. do yourself a favor and in my opinion i think i would be having a talk with the folks above you and let them know you don't mind it for a bit but htat you have to think of your family as well rob k Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jeramie, What Steve said reminded me of something I heard in the past. There is never a gravestone saying "I wish I had spent more time at work". I'm sure your capable of doing great things at work. You can probably design a fantastic building...but the truth is that in everyones life sooner or later you wont be working. What will you have to go home to? It's always nice to get more money and a higher status, just don't forget why your doing it!... and at what cost! Also, bear in mind, deer season starts here in a couple of months!
