Here's my question. What do you all think of the Summit Backpacker (the one that folds flat)? Is it quite after it has been in the weather for awhile? After I left my old job they gave me a gift certificate to Gander Mountain and I am going to use it for a stand. I went last night and was checking them out. I own a Viper Extreme and I love it. Plus the Viper is on sale for $199 so I know what to expect out of that stand. The backpacker is 269, but I haven't talked to anyone that has owned one. Here is a hint....anything you want to find an equipment review on, go to www.google.com and type in 'Summit Backpacker review'. You will find a bunch of them and probably get enough to get past the paid hacks and to the true user reviews. It is funny, but read several and you will see that some of these so called reviews from different sources read word for word but they never tell you it is Summit marketing material. It is quiet, and i have done a few 11 plus hour sits in mine. If you do get one, do yourself a favor, and go to the summit website and order a pair of side bags. They come in real handy for those long days in the stand. I pack my calls, my book or magazine, even my release in the pockets the night before, and when I get my stand set up, everything is right there. I bought one for a friend that lets me borrow his boat, and we got it really cheap. I want to say $160 but I can't remember exactly. They are worth the money as they are built to last a life time. There is one ending in 20 hours that starts at $220. 2 have sold in the last month. They were both new in the box. one sold for $179, and the other sold for $166. Those are both great prices. Evidently, the Cobra is no longer available. Does Summit have another one like this (stand-up/sit-down climber with a fold up climbing bar)? All you need to do is wrap the cable around the tree and climb! Ill be sitting out there this Saturday all morning with the camera. Ill post some pics if I get any! Cant wait to hunt out of it! The front is wide open, perfect for the bow hunter. Very quiet and light and easy to set up.. I put a piece of outdoor carpet on the floor platform for rubber boot squeek elimination and to block wind. The rapid climb stirrups are a great improvement.
