finally picked a range finder

ok, so i did a LOT of research. in the end, i went down to a large sporting goods store (sportsman's warehouse) and looked at the range finders they had. i chose the nikon 440. the reasons... it was pretty low in price compared to the others, the base optics in it are 8x, i don't really care if the accuracy drops off over 400 yards - i won't be shooting that far (i hope) and it was more accurate than the bushnell yardage pro (this was based on pre-measured distances inside the store). this weekend i'm going out to try it at measured distances up to 600 yards. i'll let ou know how it works out smile.gif

Re: finally picked a range finder

well, ok, i got to break out the range finder and here's what i've found:

shortest distance i could measure was 12 yards

longest distance i could measure was 496 yards

it works great for moving targets, my example was a truck coming towards me and then going away, it reads fast at least. the 8x optics are great, glad i chose that part. i started off at the football field, starting at 15 yards, i hit every 5 up to 50, and then every 10 to 100. all of them were hitting right on.

now, the manual itself says that it can measure from 11-440 yards, so at least it does what they say, but the guy i talked to said it would go up to 1000 on "high reflective surfaces" (personally, i think he's full of crap, since the farthest i was able to get was 496)

my only problem with it so far is that it is very lightweight and i have a hard time keeping it steady, guess i should cut back on the coffee a bit blush.gif
