Guest lilcrackshot
I prefer ground blinds. For one you can put them about anywhere where as a treestand you odviously have to have a tree. Also a good ground blind will cover up alot of sound, movement and smell. Like when you draw back a bow they can't see it. Also they material muffles they sound so you also aren't as noisy. And I am afraid of hights.
hutchies
Re: Stands vs. Blinds Depends on the terrain I am hunting but generally I bowhunt out of a treestand and gunhunt out of a blind. There really are times and places for each and somtimes it is better to find a natural blind. One place I hunt has a cedar tree that the limbs on the bottom are pretty wide open. I normally sit under the tree and look thru the branches for things coming.
JimT
Re: Stands vs. Blinds The one advantage stands have over blinds is they help your scent dissipate better...It may fly over the deer instead of straight into their nose.
johnf
Re: Stands vs. Blinds I use both depending on weather, terrain and sometimes who I'm hunting with. There are very good arguements for using either one.
wtnhunt
Re: Stands vs. Blinds I primarily hunt ladder stands, but have a few spots I hunt ground blinds. Cannot beat the up in your face rush you get when grunting in a buck during the rut face to face in a ground blind.
christsavedme
Re: Stands vs. Blinds I primarily hunt stands (climbers, loc-ons, ladders, and box stands) but on occasion when there is not a tree where I need it I resort to the ground blind. I would rather be up a tree, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do!
snapper
Re: Stands vs. Blinds I prefer hunting from a treestand...hunting from a blind (to me) wouldn't be much different than sliding open a window in my house and shooting a deer. Guest Finn
Re: Stands vs. Blinds I treestand hunt....the couple times I was on the ground, I got busted by the deer. Was younger than and did't really know what I was doing, so that put me off to ground hunting. Maybe will try it again.
GWSmith
Re: Stands vs. Blinds Honestly for years I had neither of the two. Unless I used the natural cover of the woods, like a fallen log-treestump-or weeds, I had nothing but the tree I had my back against. I like a treestand primarily because I can see more. This coming year will be my first attempt to harvest a deer from a pop-up ground blind. I will have some treestands ready though if the deer start to get too spooky! Rhino
Re: Stands vs. Blinds For bowhunting I prefer a treestand but I do hunt out of home made ground blinds when hunting a food plot. Sometimes there just isn't a treestand set up that's right for bowhunting a food plot and a ground blind gives me more options for getting in the right position. I don't bowhunt out of a ground blind in the woods at all anymore. For gun hunting I really don't have a preferrence. It just depends on the situation. Many of the places I gun hunt are on the edge or on the point of ridges overlooking bottoms and funnels. Sometimes it's just better to be on the ground because a treestand will actually put me too high up from where I expect to see deer and can actually limit my field of view and shot opportunities. Some of my setups from a ground position will actually put me 30+ feet above where I expect to see deer. A treestand in the same spot would put me looking through the tree canopy over the area I'm hunting. Then there are times when I have to use a treestand to be able to see over thick cover into narrow openings in the cover. I just have to take the set up into consideration when I make that decision when I'm hunting with a firearm.
horst
Re: Stands vs. Blinds I think theres a time and place for both.I never had much luck with the pop-up blinds but have had considerable luck hunting from natural cover on the ground, standing corn, blown down trees, overgrown fencelines, things like that. The nice thing about this kind of hunting is it leaves you a lot more flexible, if the deer are moving just outta range you can reposition. If you see a deer you want a shot at you can try a stalk. But with a treestand you can get away with more movement, scent becomes less of an issue as long as the winds right, and it gives you a much better field of view.lots of places i hunt from the ground you cant see more then 30/40 yrds around you where from a stand you could see 1/2 mile or more.Deer suddenly appearing that close can make it hard to get drawn back, sometimes you cant even pick your bow up.It can be frustrating but when it all comes together theres nothing much more exciting
ZooBear
Re: Stands vs. Blinds [ QUOTE ] The major thing with me is I have a ground blind but would like to get and try a tree stand. I didn't know how good a ground blind would be for bowhunting whitetails. I've never seen anyone do it on any show or dvd so that has lead me to believe that it's not a serious option for bow hunters. [/ QUOTE ] Dont tell that to the boys at Double Bull!! I use both treestands and blinds. They both have their place.
