VTbowman
The more I watch the less I like em. They are just so product endorsment driven its sickening. I don't mind a guy makeing money off hunting shows. Heck I would love to, but its getting as bad as X-mas now. I was watching a show, I think Drurys, where they have amature teams competeing. I thought, "Hey this is a great concept of showing real amatures hunting and filming." But then sure as anything, ScentLock was being shoved down our throats. I mean I watched 2 different team film clips and one, to me anyways, was a far better hunt and filming job. However they were down graded considerably since they did not use full scent lock, face masks, etc.. It was shortly after that critique I found out who was sponsering the show when they went to commercial... I am also starting to see very unethical shots being taken then talked about as "good hits". Then they try to cover it up by saying they are "Just gonna back out and let him lay for a bit before tracking.." yea right they need time to go rent a dog team to track this poorly hit deer and then when they find it its the middle of the night or the next day... I dont know about you but I normally am enjoying a beer around my hanging deer a couple hours after the shot...
Bond
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I used to like the Drury's a lot. Their advertising wasn't as bad as some. They just showed that they use it and where it, then there were commercials. Now all the shows are "Biologic is best, we hate you if you don't use scent lok, we'll burn down your house if you don't like the Wildlife eye...." Well maybe not that extreme but they need to stop talking about their wildlife eye. What I hate more than the ads is the unprofessional film makers. All the staged scenes, and then walking up to a bloated deer and trying to reinact the excitement of just shooting it. After they shoot something, their comments and reactions seem so forced. Even with the advertising Drury is still one of my favorite. Along with Realtree, Eastman's and Primos. Just because they don't stage scenes, and you get real reactions out of all of those hunters. NY911Bowhunter
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? It's Scent Blocker Plus.......... I agree with the endorsing, but these are still very good shows. No different that Roadtrips and Micael Waddell. I can do without the extreme product pushing, but I wouls still watch shows like Roadtrips, Dream Season, Primos truth, Hunters Journal, Archers Choice, Wild Outdoors, North American Whitetail, etc . VTbowman
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? kcbuck- I agree, they gotta pay the bills and they are producing the shows to make money. But thats what commercials are for.. I dont need to be bombarded during the actually show too. I understand if DoubleBull Blinds is making there own show. I would expect to see DB blinds being used, no prob with that. But dont pound me with DB slogans during the entire show and act like if it were not of the DB blind I would not have this animal. (just an exaple, not saying they did that.) I just remember when shows about hunting were about hunting and not what product you "must" have to be successfull. I suppose since I have gone traditional, all these products seem extremely unneeded as it is. As for scent lock I feel thats a scam anyways but have no problems with anyone who wears them. I just felt bad for those guys who got slammed for not wear all of it even though they had the better filming... As for waiting on a poorly hit animal, I agree with that too, but say it was poorly hit and explain why your waiting, dont try to pass it off as a good hit. This can teach young hunters poor hunting... Some shows are worse then others, its not a collective of them all being bad. I have just seen too many go down hill over the past few years... Chrud
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? The hunting shows I watch all the time are Realtree Outdoors, Realtree Road Trips and North American Whitetail Television. There are several others I like also, including Whitetail Country, Advantage Adventures, HS Outdoors, Gettin' Close and Archer's Choice. But, there are some I can't stand watching. WaCoyote
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I like some but it really depends on what they are chasing. I can't hardly stand these game farm whitetail hunts where they sit in a box and talk about all the equipment they need. I love the bear, moose, muley, and some elk hunts though. I really do like most of the personalities but really if you've seen one canned hunt you've seen them all. I get a kick out of that Roger Raglin guy, What a trip he is. He sure is a bit weird. So is Stan pots. I watched him shoot this deer once and he acted like he was ...... well I can't say it here but you get the picture. I hate them shows and love them at the same time. And yes the adds drive me crazy too.
kidd
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? i take them with a grain of salt i enjoy watching drurys, kisky, north american whitetails, and realtree. i find some of the information useful and some not so useful i find if i am being to critical i will just turn it off and read about it in a mag. or book JMO good tymes nate
Mach1
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I absolutely love hunting shows. I plan things around certain shows so that I can watch them. The Outdoor Channel, ESPN2 on Sunday mornings, and The Men's Channel are at the top of my list of favorite channels. I'm glad we have huntings shows on now because we all know there is a bunch of shows out there that are definitely not worth your time to watch. dg
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? Yeah, I hate the "gotta have it" type shows. I like seeing the animal, but usually despise what the guy has to say. It's usually some ball player/actor being held by the hand and told to shoot "george". preacherman
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? that is why that I have Tivo. maddhunter
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I still watch them, mostly the ones I have on video. Since I don't have a satelite any more. I'd have to say I like Primos Truth series, deer and turkey, the best but still get pumped watching those Monster Buck and Allstars of Spring videos. CDubWSR
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? kc.... i saw buck ventures a while back. it used to be on a local station here in oklahoma(ksbi-52) but i hadnt seen it in a while. i guess the mens channel bought out the rights. its a very good show, no nonsense like you said. i especially like it b/c they do almost all their filming in oklahoma and missouri, or atleast they used to. buckee
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? Well guys, I wouldn't complain too much...we don't get any...nutiing..zippo, hunting shows up here on Vancouver Island. At least you have some hunting shows to watch. Heck it's no different than any other TV shows where you get 15 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of show. Just ignor the commercials and enjoy the hunt. I would, if I could
VTbowman
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I admit I will watch them anytime over Dr.Phil or Opera. Or anything they play on Lifetime or LMN channels. LOL I do think there are a few that are very well put together and some that do not push their sponses to death. Eastons is one that comes to mind but then again that dude uses a recurve too. LOL It also seems like everyone has one now too so there are choices. But you must admit that there are some that are more infomercials then huntin shows...
Doc
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? "Do you really enjoy those huntin shows????" Not as much as I once did. I have found myself getting half way through a lot of hunting shows until I finally realized that I had seen them before. Each show is a clone of all the rest. The only thing that changes is the deer being shot. When is the last time you ever saw something on these shows that surprised you, or something that you actually learned something from? I can go all the way back to Howard hill and Fred Bear videos and see exactly the same thing that I see on a video made yesterday. The producers of these shows have absolutely no imagination or creativity. The last video that I saw that was worth watching was back in the 70's or 80's. It was called Bowhunting October Whitetails, done by the Wentzel brothers. That was the last time that I saw anything that tried to show me something new and do a bit of instruction. As far as TV shows, I think they ought to ditch the 1/2 hour format and go for 1 hour programs. The themes ought to be more about the details of successful hunting. And the emphasis on monstrous deer should be downplayed in favor of showing better content in programming. There are few monstrous trophy deer taken on these shows that really impress me anymore. It's just a case of, "I've seen it all before .... MANY TIMES". As far as advertising, it must be understood that somebody has to pay the bills. However, when these things start looking more like infomercials than TV programming, I think that is going a bit over the edge. Also, like somebody has already mentioned, keep the advertising separate from the programming. These things seem to lose a lot of credibility when they start stirring the product hawking into the main part of the show. So, even though there are a lot of people who are extremely disappointed in these shows, apparently there are enough that are willing to put up with mediocre productions, to keep these guys in business. However, I just wonder what kind of real money they could make if they ever tried to make something professional that actually took into consideration making a show that the average guy could relate to and something that would not look like every other hunting show that we have seen. I'll just bet it would be worth the effort. Doc
MCH
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? [ QUOTE ] that is why that I have Tivo. I just record the shows and then watch them at a convenient time for me and fast forward through the commercials! [/ QUOTE ] Same way here. Couldn't tell you when the last time was when I actually watched a commercial from the Outdoor Channel. Other than the "in-show" commercials VT is talking about. I, too, get tired of the "they weren't wearing the scent lock face shield" propaganda they shove down your throat but the content of the show, to me, outweighs the rest. The same with the rest of the shows. My TIVO is set for bowhunting and that's my only requirement for a show on the Outdoor Channel.
buckbuster11
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I hardly even watch hunting shows anymore. Besides it being to commercialized, all hunting shows are concerned with is getting as many big racks on your tv as possible. Very few of them teach you anything or even really show you the hunt. Usually the first deer you see on the tv is the big ol' buck and ten seconds later the happy hunter is holding up his head, givng you contact information to the great outfitter that provided him this great deer. Personally, I can only watch that a few times before losing interest.
The_Kat
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? Well advertisements come and go with any industry. You can do like I do on a commercial break....just hit the mute button and talk with your family for a bit about the hunt that took place, or whatever is going on in your life. Now as far as critiquing hunting shows....I get tired of buying DVDs, and VHS only to watch it, and then see the entire new season of most shows, Primos, Realtree, North American Whitetail....before they air. I am not griping, I just wish they all would save some hunts for JUST television, and others JUST for video. But I will continue to watch them regardless. I mean who can get tired of hunting??? Tominator
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? Don't ya' just miss Bing Crosby and Phil Harris walking around for quail, and you hear them telling stories as they walk. They'd stop for a bit, tell a story, laugh, then start walking again. And, oh yeah, they'd shoot some quail and some ducks every now and then. Those are the hunting shows I like best. All the ones out now are OK I guess, but all the advertising, and endorsing does get old after a bit. I guess what I dislike more than anything is that these hosts take you on hunts and they make it seem as if you can't bag a deer without this certain product which we all know is bull. I watched a show yesterday and it started out good, but all of a sudden, this host (don't remember his name) started pushing this type of automated feeder system and it really got nauseating 20 minutes into the show. I can't even remember if they actually went hunting, or if they just continued to dump corn and program these feeders. I think I clicked back over to the British Open. [ QUOTE ] without all the advertising and endorsing there wouldn't be all these hunting shows or even The Outdoor Channel. [/ QUOTE ] I dont mind the commercial breaks just dont want to be hammered on all show long on how you "need" there certain product to be a good effective hunter, or how they push there sponsers product to much. I understand a biut but some are just to much. Like I said they are more info-mercials instead of hunting shows. Not all of them but most.. Oh and I agree with Doc too. I cant remember the last time I watched one that taught me anything new or has shown me anything different then what I have seen 100000x already... But in all seriousnes how much more could there be anyways... LOL
Switchback29A1
Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I love Realtree Roadtrips...Primo's truth about hunting is growing on me and Drury outdoors Dream Season is awesome. And their new product the wildlife eye is a pretty awesome little product. Theres not anything like it out there and looks like it would be a great tool. Plus to get it out to the public you have to kill it to death. Yes it gets old with the same product being talked about all throughout the show, but they pay the bills so that show can be on the air. Just like Nascar and the drivers thanking their sponsors in the interviews.

I swear I hear one more thing about Medalion Onions I am gonna puke. LOL I loved his show when it was Dan doing the hunting and Guy was still a young lad. Now its all about there cooking stuff. Thats a prime example of how a good down home huntin show has gone the way of the product endorsement. I understand paying the bills so we can see the show but come on 1/2 there show is watching them grill and eat now...
