Guest Andrea
This guy always comes in our office and looks like he just crawled out of the grave. He always has on the same thing. A paper thin white t-shirt ( or it USED to be white) that has holes in it. He has the worst body odor ever. It lingers even after he is gone!!!! I spray the place down with air freshener but it doesn't really help. How would you deal with this??? He's not poor...he's ordering our services and it's NOT cheap. I am just amazed that some people could be that nasty. Anyone ever had to deal with this? I cannot be rude. There's no way I could actually say "Hey mister, dang you reek, how 'bout taking a bath?" Even though that's exactly what I feel like saying!!!

Nosdog2
Re: Telling someone they stink??? I would be honest and tell him. Maybe not blurt it out accross the office, however just pull him aside and explain to him that the office has certain rules about maitaining a plesent odor and he is in violation. AaronS
Re: Telling someone they stink??? I've had to deal with it here at work with employees, not with customers. That would make it a more delicate situation.
Guest Andrea
Re: Telling someone they stink??? If he were an employee..we wouldn't be discussing this topic. He would bathe..or find another job. But he is a customer..... Anyone suggest a REALLY GOOD spray???? Febreze ain't touchin' it.

Steven
Re: Telling someone they stink??? this technique probably won't help you, but I have a method I use. When we fuel our trucks (at least 50 gallons) we get a free shower at the truck stop which stays on our fuel card for 5 days. So, there's no reason a shower shouldn't be possible. Anyway, I was told when I first started driving (probably by GWSmith) that I would lose any shyness that I had. He was right. If I run into a stinky trucker, I ask "So, have you fueled lately, driver?" When they reply yes, I politely suggest they go wash their ****. Not too subtle, but effective. Shaun_300
Re: Telling someone they stink??? LMAO @ Racksie!! Sometimes I have to deal with it, it all depends how hot it is in the shop. We don't have A/C in our shop, and with 10 mechanics workin their butts off when it is 105 degrees in the shop, then working under HOT vehicles that just came off the highway..... sometimes we don't smell exactly like roses! We can't help it on days like that though... just part of the job I guess!

Guest CBU93
Re: Telling someone they stink??? Need more info on your particular situation...industry? percent of overall revenue this guy provides for you? # of affected workers? Etc... Initial instinct is to make arrangements for him to place all orders over the phone, thus possibly making it more convenient for him and more customer friendly for you. Rhino
Re: Telling someone they stink??? Seems like the last thing you want is to get too close to that dude. I guess asking TSBH to requisition a gas mask for you is out of the question. That would be cute though if you could put one of those on when he came in. It sounds like it's a good time to start taking phone orders and have a delivery service for him.

Bruce Schmeck
Re: Telling someone they stink??? Customers should always be treated with respect. Having said that, I would address him as Mr. Odiferous (ooooops............Freudian slip). Be polite and send him a bottle of H.S. Strut Scent-A-Way shampoo and body soap as a thank you for doing business with him. A bottle of skunk scent to use as cologne in the meantime might be helpful. HuntingInMaine
Re: Telling someone they stink??? We are dealing with this same problem! My other half's business partner smells terrible. They work construction and with all the hot, humid weather, I am glad I don't have to work beside him. Yesterday we were eating lunch and my son said he didn't put any deoderant on. This guy says "That's ok, I never wear it either." I told them both they were gross, but this man says he doesn't need it. Maybe these people just can't smell themselves? I would give the man a gift basket after you complete the job. Pack it full of shampoo, soap, deoderant, and maybe a new shirt! LOL In the mean time go to walmart and pick up a can of citrus magic. Spray it just as soon as he walks in and again when he leaves, the stuff works great!

Maybe these people just can't smell themselves? [/ QUOTE ] Problem is they can't smell themselves. HuntingInMaine you might have missed a golden opportunity there. When he said he didn't need it you should have let him know something to the effect "only if he's a hermit". A little consideration for your friends would be appreciated. You know anything along that line. Heck get the point across to him since he's your other half's partner. That's a totally different situation. Next chance you get ask him when he started to approach you if he practiced proper hygene today. Do it in a joking manner if that helps. If he gives you a funny look or something that indicates he didn't, ask him to stay downwind. If he doesn't get it then continue to rag him about it until he either stays clear of you or joins the rest of the civilized world. If he ever gets fussy about it just ignore that and act like he didn't say a word. Go to battle for some clean air action but us a little wit and tact to get your point across. leatherneck
Re: Telling someone they stink??? try the old bucket of water over ther door trick. When he walkes in and get splashed with it, hit him with a squirt bottle of liquid soap, and then say oh dang sorry, we were playing a joke on someone else and you just happened to come in at the wrong time. Then giggle under your breath hand him a complamentary towel and then head back to your desk satisified.
