Sticker Shock

So I'm playing single parent until Thursday night and I'm running kids all over God's creation last night. So my son's football practice ends and it was hot yesterday. Poor little kids were running around in full pads (minus helmets) in 90 degree heat, so I say to my son "want to go get an ice cream?" Of course he says yes.

Mind you, I'm not a big ice cream fan at all, can't remember the last time I got a soft serve, anyway, we get to the stand and they've got this display of the cones you can get. My son picks the sugar cone with the sprinkles on top, so I order him a small twist with the sprinkly top.

Now, when I was a kid......lol, that same cone cost my dad abooot $.50 I think. Last night it cost me $2.20 laugh.gif

Man, I'm in the wrong business. grin.gif

Re: Sticker Shock

We went to the Cold Stone Creamery in Tulsa a while back after seeing a movie. I had seen their advertisements everywhere and it was only a block away so we figured "what the heck?"

They literally make their waffle cones right there (in an iron). They also start with a base icecream and add whatever you want, mixing it in front of you. I had some strawberry deal (I dont much care for icecream either) and my wife had some Chocolate Caramel Thing. It was pretty cool watching them mix and make the cones and ice cream but then the guy behind the counter said $11!

shocked.gif Yep, $11 for two icecream cones. Granted they had strawberries and caramel, chocolate, nuts, etc but just over $11! Cricket on a crutch batman!

Re: Sticker Shock

Tom,

You are sort of joking, I think but we are reaching an apex in Capitalism, I am afraid.

The cost of everything...cars, homes, consumer goods, ice cream is outpacing wages.

You have seen the recent employee pricing by almost all of the manufacturers and I think that will become permanent sometime in the next couple of years. Who is going, now that the employee pricing is over and we know how much they CAN sell them for, to pay the regular price? Not me. I will expect it at that price or I will wait until the next employee pricing sale. I think the manufacturers shot themselves in the foot because they called out a lot of people who weren't necessarily looking to buy---people that keep their cars a long time. Now it will be several years before many of them need or will buy another car. It is going to be fun to watch.

Housing will be next, IMHO. The average Joe here in Atlanta can hardly afford both a family and a home and two cars on his/her salary. They are saying home prices will fall soon.

Anyway, there is generally nowhere but up for prices. If you build something, your costs of parts is going up not down.

I think we are reaching a boiling point and what the answer is, I can't say. Things just cannot continue to skyrocket like they have.

Re: Sticker Shock

Yeah it sure does cost a lot for treats these days... crazy.gif

When I go to the Ottawa Senators games, it costs me $5 for a 600mL (16 ounce... i think) bottle of pop! And $11 for a 20oz beer! shocked.gif And that was a couple years ago before the NHL lockout. I can't imagine what it's gonna be this year.... blush.gifcrazy.gif
