Guest Squirrelbuster
I am sure a lot of you remember me posting about my dog getting killed by coyotes a little while back. Well, I got another dog to replace her.It is a 9 week old Black Lab/Rottweiler mix. The father was full blooded yellow lab while the mother was half black lab and half rottweiler. Well, the puppy I have looks full blooded Black Lab, and might be able to be past off as one, if I didn't know the mother was mixed. Well any way, the pup is a female and her name is Jesse. If I knew how to, I would try to train it to be a hunting dog, but I haven't learned how to do that yet, so I guess I will have to wait until a another future dog to try it. Too bad, I have been wanting a hunting dog.

dogdoc
Re: I got a new dog! jason---i bet you could train her. just start playing with her--get her obeying the basic commands--sit, here. play fetch with her but at this age make it as fun as possible. the discipline can come later. introduce her to water on her own time--make the water fun! at this age you want everything to be fun. you can do more hard core training when she gets a little older. being 3/4 lab she might make you a good little retriever. congrats on the new pup partner todd
IowaDeerHunter
Re: I got a new dog! That is great, i am sure it wil grow up to be a fairly large dog, being half lab half rottweiler. As for training the dog there are some correct ways to do it, but once they get old enough and interestd I just start throwing a pheasent dummy for them and teach them to bring it back to me. i don't know the correct way to do it thought, butthat worked for me. I always wanted a yellow lab. [/ QUOTE ] The family I got the dog from said the mother had a litter of ten. 5 were black and 5 were yellow. I wanted to get a yellow one, but they were all taken. But the black ones are just as good anyway, if not better, it is just that I already have a black lab so I wanted something different. robk
Re: I got a new dog! hey squirrel i sent you a pm to let you know how it is easy to train the dogs and she will do fine. just do some of what is called yard work which means work her in your yard and remember she is a puppy and will lose interest and keep lots of good treats bite size. i see me and dogdoc have the same ideas and that is how i trained my shorthair. she is the best bird dog i have ever seen rob k

huntn4bucks
Re: I got a new dog! Congrats on the new pup. If you decide to start training her just remember to be consistant. Do the same things over and over until it becomes routine to her. Also, training session don't always have to be long...10-15 minutes each day is better than 1 hour every couple of days. Good luck. archerjg
Re: I got a new dog! Congratulations on the new dog. If you want to train him you might try one of the training videos available that would help you from start to finish and if you have trainer near you then you might ask them for some advice. Guest Squirrelbuster
Re: I got a new dog! I am going to have to disappoint everybody that is asking for pics. I don't have a digital camera, and if I was to take a regular pic, it would be quite a while before I would be able to get the film developed. Sorry.
