I mean, on a typical summer day when you were between the ages of say 8 and 12, what did you do? Just now my oldest son who was banned from electrical entertainment for a day for pummeling his little brother says "dad, have you ever gone a day without games or TV or computer?" Laughing I said "of course I have." J oe says "on purpose?" Again "of course I have, plenty of times." So Joe says "why?" At this point I'm really comparing his looks to the mailman because this child can't be mine. So incredulous I just say "son, if I had what you have at your disposal, a pellet gun, 100 acres of fields and trees, and summer vacation. My mom or dad would never see me. I'd be up in the morning and out shooting things.....TV and stuff like that just didn't motivate me like it does to you...." Sheesh. Where did I go wrong? LOL They barely were when I was a kid and even then it was only 3 channels and no video games. Unless you consider Pong as hours of fun. But alas I am like you. I spent most of my time riding BMX bikes and shooting archery, building cabins, playing kick ball, or baseball, or football with the neighbor kids. I started with a Kuwahara then moved to a Patterson Racing. Raced a couple of times but like you, didn't really get into the race scene so I stuck with tricks; street, ramps, bowls, etc. OK Tominator. We'll end the hijackin here. Sorry. Play with the neighborhood girls? Heck no. Who would? The boys had all the fun. We built forts, rode bikes, had acorn/pinecone fights, caught small animals, played football, burned ants with magnifying glasses, etc.,etc. I was your typical tomboy. So...to motivate me...would be to keep me inside and do girl stuff. YUCK!!!!!!!!! Of course....I did blossom into a "girl" eventually...even though I still do boy stuff. Or the creek that ran through the woods down the other end of the street. Or the bikes that just called our names to be jumped over anything more than 2mm high. He just barely passed reading, yet when tested, he has a college level comprehension and vocabulary. Obviously he had been spending too much time with the game boy and just not doing his homework. When the report card came home, I became the new owner of his game boy. You would have thought I had just told him someone died! LOL I always played outside when I was his age, my mother had to holler for us to come in after it got dark. We didn't need anything more than our bikes to keep us busy. Now I have to push them out the door and lock it so they don't veg in front of the TV! Don't feel too bad...I don't know where I went wrong either! Reading and using my imagination.Playing pick up games and exploring they learned real quick.
