Scope ?

The reticles on the scope of my .223 will not adjust no matter how you adjust them they will not move. The point of aim stays the same and the bullets hit the same place. The scope that came on the gun is a cheaper simmons 8 point scope. I am thinking that something has broken inside and I was thinking of replacing it with either a Burris Fullfield 2 or a Leupold Vari-X 2 or 3. Can I use the same rings or do I have to change rings if I replace it. They are millen rings steel rings. I was also going to try to get the scope on there now fixed and put it on anther gun that I have. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks in advance for all the advice.

Re: Scope ?

I suggest you center the adjustments. Lock the gun in a vise or remove the scope and lock it in a vise. Its easiest if you can still look through the scope and focus on something that is 50 yards away or so. Turn the adjustments one way until it stops and take a mental picture of where the reticle is. Now go the other way until it stops. Once you see the distance it will go, center it before re-installing it on the gun. Often when the scope is adjusted too far in one of its settings, it will not work correctly.

Anyhoo, on to your other questions. Yes you can still use the same mounting setup you have. I have used Millet mounts and rings on occasion. They are decent, but not great quality. Is this on your Rem 700? I prefer Leupold rings and mounts on my guns. They are strong, not too expensive, and have torx head screws.

Re: Scope ?

there is a good chance the scope is shot if you look thru it, turn the dial, and the crosshairs don't move. My neighbor had the same problem last year, except he mounted a cheap little bsa or something on his .300 mag, it couldn't take the recoil. I doubt that is happening with your .223 though! Unless you have a warranty on the scope, it probably isn't worth getting repaired.
