Re: Ever used Deer Cane??

I have been using it and the deer are tearing it up right now. I went to the feed store at the end of last season and they were trying to get rid of what they had. 1 buck a bag. I spent 29 dollars. Thats all they had. I only use the powder deer cane and spread it on the ground like it is. I dont mix it or anything like that. The rain does the rest. They will stop hitting it as the weather cools down. I had about 400 trips on my deer cam that was at a one of these spots. I had two others out on food plots that only had about 50 pics between them. This was two weeks worth of pics. I change out my memory card on the one on the lick and got 64 in one night. 50 were of two nice bucks. Most of my 2005 pics on my webshots page below are of one of my licks. Give it a try but you may have waited to late. by the time they start hitting it the weather will cool down. grin.gif

Re: Ever used Deer Cane??

Had used Deer Cane until I found out about Buck Grub about four years ago..... that's all I use now! I add it to my feeders and use it sparingly on the ground.

What Hunters Are Saying About Buck Grub

* “I won’t hunt without it!”

–Jay Novacek, Nebraska and Texas

* “Getting next to critters is my life. Buck Grub brings ’em in like nothing I have ever seen. I’m a Buck Grubber!”

–Ted Nugent, Michigan

* “I’ve found the secret to big bucks. Thanks Buck Grub.”

–Jim Shockey, Canada

* “One awesome attractant. Deer absolutely love it!”

–Alan Warren, Texas

* “Buck Grub brings the big bucks in and they find the product fast. The deer found it in just one night. The most beneficial thing about the product is it actually changed the bucks’ habits. We started seeing large bucks in daylight.”

–Frank Greenelee, Mississippi

Re: Ever used Deer Cane??

Expensive stuff for what it is. 98% salt. You can get a fifty lb block mineral lick at Agway or a farm store for less than 10 bucks. Once established the deer will tear it up. You can break it up for a few different spots.

Pretty rich list of fellas using that buck grub. $8 for a 5 lb bag. No thanks! smirk.gif

Re: Ever used Deer Cane??

I alwalys thought this stuff would be considered baiting, and thus illegal? Do diferent states have laws regarding these products? Some people have said they just use salt blocks, Im almost positive those are illegal here in Illinois. I was really shocked at how many people on here said they were using these type of products.

As far as mineral licks go they are not considered baiting here. To provide the most benefit for the deer herd, mineral licks should be put out in the late spring or early summer. They are highly used during the hotter months of the year. They really aren't used (at least down here) hardly at all during any open deer season. Someone hunting a food plot, trails, or other food sources is going to see far more deer down here than somebody hunting a mineral or deer cane lick. Some hunters I know learned that lesson the hard way. smirk.gif

Baiting is illegal here but mineral licks (or deer cane) is legal by law. I know some states include mineral licks, deer cane, etc. in their defination of baiting and thus it's illegal there. Our state does not but specifically states mineral licks are legal. They know they are mainly used in the summer too. Baiting is legal in some other states so it's a non-issue there. I'm not here to debate this issue just provided ILBrad with the facts as best I can. wink.gif

Re: Ever used Deer Cane??

I havent had much success with it but I do know that its not the healthiest stuff for your deer there are much better choices and healthier choices for your deer there is the 4-play block its a block lick that you can split into 4 pieces or leave as one big block it has more nutrients then the cane does all the cane is is mostly salt they need other minerals to.

GL this season.

Re: Ever used Deer Cane??

Well....I put one out a few days before the hurricane. I just went out and checked it yesterday. Something's been nibbling at it but the ground hasn't been torn up around it. Probably just squirrels.

Oh well. It may take 'em a while. They are sure tearing up the corn though!!! Glad I don't have to haul it very far. I'm makin about 2 trips a week!! smile.gif
