She has a new hoyt rintec at 35 lbs pull right now, hoping to get to 40 lbs by hunting season. I have her sighted in at 10,20 and 30 yards I told her not to shoot pass 20yds at a deer. Also she's nailing 3"bulzeyes at 30 yds. ? is 40 lbs going to get good penetration on a deer at 30yds? I know it depends on if she hit's the deer correct or not, And I know she can make the shot. Rhino Posted August 24, 2005 Report Share Posted August 24, 2005 Re: How Far can she Just my opinion but I'd suggest using 100 gr. Razorcap broadheads with 40 lbs of pull. They are cut on contact broadheads and they also have a much lower angled cutting edge thus reducing drag for improved penetration over other cut on contact, fixed blade heads. They are a 1 to 3 ratio fixed blade broadhead (1" cut with a 3" cutting surface on the blades). They are a modification of the Wensel Woodsman broadheads that I use with my traditional gear and I get great penetration with my recurve using those broadheads. I use G5's with my compound bows which are great cut on contact broadheads too but they are a 1 to 1 ratio broadhead so the drag is higher. [/ QUOTE ] I can tell you why not........an arrow out of a light drawweight bow will lose a lot of energy at that range and then you risk a wounded deer. The traditional 2 blade heads will get much better penetration no matter what brand you use, but a cut on contact head like the EXP 100's at walmart work just as well for the formative time she will have to go through until she gets her pull weight up. She was drawing around 40 lbs. we set her up in a ground blind so she wouldn't need a pass through to get a good blood trail. Limited her to 20 yrds. her doe was 15 yards and it didn't go 60 after the shot. We did put on cut on contact heads for better penetration. Good Luck. There's a big difference between shooting bullseyes at 30 and harvesting an animal at 30. Let her get at least one 20 yarder under her belt before venturing out past the mark. A 20 yarder may seem like a chip shot, but you never know. Missing your aiming point by two inches at 20 could result in a miss at 30 or worse yet, a wounded animal. billygoat Posted August 25, 2005 Report Share Posted August 25, 2005 Re: How Far can she Keep working her at 30 yards, but tell her to hold for the 20 yard or < shot! Her set up, as is will do. If she can pull the 40 great but keep in mind, if she fatigues easy @ 40, she will be less accurate when that deer comes in (due to the adrenaline factor).
