Saw eight and got 4 "Fox Squirrels" should of had five but I missed the fifth one with my .22! Squirrel Hunting, this year is going to be poor at best, due to the lack of mast last year. The Squirrels I got were mature animals over a year old. The areas north of I-64 are going to be the best places this season as they had more mast last year than areas south of I-64. In the woods, behing my home I see lots of Hickory Nuts lying on the ground untouched and I see very few Squirrels. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I hould have quite a few right from the start because I will be hunting on the 1st and 2nd and then I am going on a camping trip for 4 more days worth of squirrel hunting before I go back to school. I don't go back to school until Sept. 7th and that should leave me with about 5 days to go squirrel hunting. My grandfathers birthday is the 4th and I have to go to CT, so I'm out on that day... I've seen some good signs of a good mast this year. Lots of acorns, tulips and chestnuts, some beechnuts too! The squirrels are cutting them down! Went twice with some buddies and saw none, then went with my gf one day and saw 2. Not very many this year. NOTHING compared to last year.
