David_218
About three weeks ago I bought a new "Up-dated" PC which is Great! Instead of Windows 98 SE I have Windows XP. My old PC had only 128 Bites of RAM while this new one has 512 Bites of RAM. The salesman told me with this much additional RAM my computer would be MUCH FASTER! However, I found out it is no faster than my old one with a mere 128 RAM's Guess I was lied to by this Office Depot Employee. I feel I am not receiving the full benifit abilities of my new PC. I guess when you're on "Dial-Up" receiving 31.2 Kbps you can't expect too much improvement. If I didn't have a high Health Insurance premium due each month I'd get Broadband. dogdoc
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! plug in a game and you will see a big difference. It's not the RAM that's keeping it slow it the dial up. The computer can only generate the info as fast as it receives it. todd
tedicast
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! An updated computer that is said to be fast, is not refering to internet speed while surfing. It is talking about internal processes. Even the most expensive computer will crawl online with a 31.2K connection. The speed of of the new pc that the salesman is talking about is the speed which it will run programs, and retrieve data from the hard drive. VTbowman
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! Yep dial-up for me sucks too. I am lucky to get over 28K on some days. My issue is its all thats available to me where I live. I dont even get cable TV. I get old phone lines or DISH satelite. "They" are suppose to be running cable in our area but thats 2 years behind schedule. Figures. Maybe one day I can enjoy fast interent at home but not any time soon. Thats why I do most of my surfing at work. T1 is pretty quick. LOL
Palssonater
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! I wouldn't trade my this country living for highspeed anyday. (we are out of the zone) If I have to life with dial up to have peace and quiet and no neighbors, than so be it.
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! If I ever move I will make sure the DSL is installed before I even move there. If they dont have it I am not buying the house... just that simple.

Shaun_300
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! I remember those dial-up days, it could definetly be frustrating! I sure like my highspeed, at 56Mbps...
Strut10
Re: Dial-Up Connections SUCK!! The only thing worse than dial-up is dial-up on an Alltel phone line. Alltel phone lines are about the same as the old "two tin cans and a string" thing. My usual hookup speed is 28.8K and I get dropped connections all the time. The real crapper is..........I can see the Comcast Cable lines from my house. Three utility poles away is a blazing cable connection. It just ain't coming where I'm at.
