Thayer
Re: food plot help DD, aren't you worried about a dry September? I would have thought a dry spring would make you wait.

dogdoc
Re: food plot help [ QUOTE ] DD, aren't you worried about a dry September? I would have thought a dry spring would make you wait. [/ QUOTE ] yep--but I've waited as long as I can. Time restraints have me putting it in now or not for another 2 weeks. With bow season starting October 1st I need to get it in the ground and get out to let everything settle down. All the wheat farmers are planting their wheat now. I'll just get it in and let the seed sit in the soil until a good rain to get it started--and hope for the best I may regret it Thayer but this is my last opportunity to get it in and since I'm only planting annuals I'm not too worried about it. I know I'd be better off waiting until a good chance of rain---anyway the State Fair starts in about 10 days so I know it will rain about then---it always rains during the week of the state fair. todd
The_Kat
Re: food plot help Got mine in today. It rained this morning, so there is moisture in the soil. I just hope it doesn't sprout and then not rain!
wtnhunt
Re: food plot help Have had best results here in west Tennessee with fall plantings. Have planted as late as the end of September with great results. I will be planting some wintergrazer rye along with some turnips and oats or wheat here next weekend. The rye will have plenty of time to germinate and is an almost instant attractant. Penningtons wintergrazer rye is extremely fast to germinate and grows incredibly fast. You have plenty of time. You might want to add rye to your mix, the deer here in the Gibson county area love the stuff.
