Re: Who got you?

As far as bowhunting goes, well I just picked it up on my own. However, it would have to be my uncle and grandfather that started me in the hunting direction. I have been hunting since the early age of 6. Words could not come close to telling the joy that hunting brings to me and the peace I feel while in the woods and yes I do say a prayer from time to time and thank God for allowing me to enjoy his great creations. Will be a dad soon and hope that my little one will follow me into the deer woods.

Re: Who got you?

I got into artchery back when I was about 7 or 8. my father got me started, he shot a recurve for years when he was a teen and shot up till us kids were born. well once he felt I was old enough he got me a longbow to start with, I gerw out of that bow fast so it was on to shooting his recurve. by that time, he had me out hunting with it, I was about 10 on my first bow hunt. then for my birthday one year (12th?) my parents decided to let my father take me to his see his frend, a proshop owner. and get me mesured and set up with a bear bow. I shot that for awile, and hunted for 2 year with it. I then met my brother-in-law (did not know it at the time) who hunted, I was growing out of the bear, and he had pse that he had just replaced with a new one. so I ended up shooting that bow for years, killing deer left and right with it. I finly grew out of it and got another hand-me-down that I still shoot today.

so my father got the a bow in my hand and got me started in bow hunting but my in-law taught and guided me a good bit as well. with out either I would not be bow hunting today.

I did the same as them. I got my neighbor into bow hunting. he is 2 years yonger then me and me grew up next to each other. his father use to shoot, but stoped (much like me father did). his father got a bow in his hands and I guided him in his bow hunting.

My father can't pull a bow back any more and stoped hunting with it about 10 years ago, he still gun hunts today. and we go out with each other every year on the opening day of gun. I still hunt with my in-law and my neighbor to this day.

i'm sure one day I do the same as my father did and will hope that my son (or daughter) will have a friend or mentor (other then me) shoot/hunt with as well.

Re: Who got you?

My best friends grandfather. He got both of us into hunting. He would even take us out and we would set stands in the woods. Buddy and I would be about 50 yards on each side of him. We were only accurate to about 15-20 yards at the time. Sure had fun thought and I sure miss ole Cal. He taught us alot besides just how to hunt. I always told him I was gonna dedicate my first archery kill to him. Still hasn't happened and even though he's gone sometime I still feel like he is sitting in that tree about 50 yards away from me.

Re: Who got you?

I got interested in bowhunting from watching Michael Waddell on the Monster Bucks videos. He's deadly with a bow, and I like watching him.. He seems genuine and respects the animals. My grandad got me started hunting when I was 14 and he passed on last year. I think about him every day, and especially when I'm in the woods.
