LOUDON, N.H. -- After backing off his anti-RCR comments last week at Richmond, Kevin Harvick said Friday at New Hampshire that he will return to the No. 29 Chevrolet for a sixth season in 2006.

Harvick has been critical of Richard Childress Racing's lackluster performance over the summer, and the situation came to a head at Bristol when his Chase chances were ruined by a late crash.

Inside the Numbers

Kevin Harvick's Cup career

Year Starts Wins T-5s T-10s

2001 35 2 6 16

2002 36 1 5 8

2003 36 1 11 18

2004 36 0 5 14

2005 26 1 3 7

Total 168 5 30 63

Harvick hasn't had a top-five finish in the past 15 races, and he missed the Chase for the Nextel Cup for the second year in a row. Since then, things have quieted down, and Childress said on Friday that Harvick would be his driver next year.

"Kevin will be the driver next season," said Childress. "He and I have committed to moving forward together in fulfilling our current agreement, which runs through 2006, and we anticipate being together for many years beyond that.

"Our focus is on continuing to improve our performance this year and being a championship contender in 2006."

In late 2004, Harvick was critical of RCR's engine department. However, in recent weeks, Childress has added personnel to his engine development program.

Much of the speculation has been fueled by the fact that quality drivers have become a scarce commodity in the Nextel Cup garage, with both Jamie McMurray and Kurt Busch attempting to break contracts to step into new rides for 2006.

Harvick has another year on his contract with RCR and another two years with General Motors.

"Richard "has made key additions to RCR that will benefit the organization," said Harvick. We are both committed to make 2006 a successful season. I've always intended to fulfill my obligations to Richard, RCR and all of our sponsors."
