One thing that helped me in the beginning was to visualise where I wanted the arrow to exit. No matter what the body positioning is you can see where it needs to go. I know that. my bro and I talk about shot placement all the time when we are shooting. In the heat of the moment, I just never considered it. I had the same thing happen last year shot was a little far back and ended up having to put a second shot on her bedded down.
