clayman
Could they have picked a worse name??? No joke, they named it Typhoon Longwang! Hows this for a headline..."China pounded by Longwang!" Not to make light of another natural disaster that has taken lives but, the possibilitites are endless with a name like that. I'll bet Leno and Letterman are all over this one tonight.

Tominator
Re: Chineese Typhoon \"Longwang\" That's pretty funny. I was reading over the rosters of the Red Wings and Blue Jackets when we went to the game not too long ago. There was a dude on there (obviously a Native American) but his name was something like Jack Long Snake.

popgun
Re: Chineese Typhoon \"Longwang\" We are very quick to ridicule or otherwise make fun of something we do not understand. "longwang" means "Dragon King", and the Chinese do not pronounce it like we would. Does anyone remember when Chevrolet tried to sell the Chevy Nova in a foreign country and it wouldn't sell because in their language Nova meant "No Good"? Names for typhoons are already listed for years in advance, and are submitted by the countries that the potential typhoon will affect. If the comedians wanted; they could start the jokes now for the next several years, but the typhoon will pass, and the name will be forgotten by all, except those worse affected. Does anyone know what the names Katrina, Camille, Andrew, etc. mean in other languages? I think that "Dragon King" is a great name for a very powerful storm, and that's no joke. ....popgun
