hutchies Posted October 4, 2005 Report Share Posted October 4, 2005 I take off at 4p.m. today to hit the woods. Get setup in my summit and I hear someone shooting a rifle way off in the distance. All the sudden BBBBOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!! I hear shotgun pellets hitting the tree in front of me and I start yelling at the top of my lungs. I get the bow down and shuck it down the tree and as I am going down .22 bullets are zinging all over the place as I am yelling. Keep in mind I am on private property. The guy was right on the fence line shooting over on our property. I throw the summit on my back and grab my bow yelling and screaming all the way. I get over there and the guy is like "I didn't think anyone would be here this time of the year". I was 60 yards off the fenceline. He set his target up on our side and was shooting at it. Anyway I tell him You stupid ********** it's archery season and there are about 5 ************ people in here. What are you gonna do when you shoot someone?" He shrugs his shoulders and turns away and that is when I saw he had 2 pistols. So I leave but I will now be carrying the .40 cal with me and if I catch him in there without a gun I am gonna rearrange his face. Anyway I am on the phone now with the other guy that was out there with me so we gotta go talk to the guy that owns the other land. You did the right thing by leaving,, not sure carrying the .40 will help,, I hope to God is does not come to that. One time I was sitting by a tree and my brother and sisters stepson were walking away from me to get the truck. A bullet passed between them and hit the tree above me. One time my brother was in his treestand behind our neighbors house when bullets and tracer rounds start flying by him, hitting trees right next to him. He gets down as fast as possible and circles around to the house. Apparently one of our neighbors friends had decided to come over and do some shooting in the back yard while our neighbor was not home. Some idiots on the adjoining property decided to come down to the river's edge and just start shooting with their shotguns. It was hitting the tree I was in, zippin by my head. I hollered and waved my arms. All the while trying not to fall out of the tree. Idiots!!!! They finally saw me and QUICKLY went back the way they came. It's a good thing too because they were fixing to have a .308 shell come whizzing by THEIR heads. ( No not really..) But I WAS going to shoot into the water in front of them. Some guy came in state land on a 4 wheeler (illegal to use during hunting season in RI) and started unloading a .22 over our heads. We just got down and yelled "hunters in the woods". By all means, do not take the law into your own hands. I understand how mad you got but if you were to rearrange his face or get into a gun fight with him you might never bowhunter ever again. Someone was shooting something, sounded like a pistol, real close to where I was hunting. I never heard any bullets zinging, but I got out of there quick that's for sure. Two weeks ago we had a 17 year boy killed on the neighbors land. The boy wasn't even armed but was video taping the woods. The person who shot him was tresspassing and had been drinking. He shot him twice but thought he was shooting at a squirrel??? I was sitting in the creek bottoms bow hunting when I heard the people looking for him. Pretty sad. The whole conversation was on video tape. The shooter stated he would go and get help but never did. Thankfully due to the tape, the shooter was arrested.
