Tominator
Funny thing happened to me yesterday. I had a buddy from work come over with his wife and kids to pick pumpkins. Well the kids got done picking their pumpkins and I asked TJ's wife if she wanted some popcorn, and she said "you have popcorn out here?" and I said yeah, and I took her over to the popcorn plot. I pulled off a few ears off, shucked them and showed her and she was completely amazed and said "that's popcorn? How do you pop it like that?" And I said, well, you have to let it dry out a little more, then you pop it off the ear and pop it just like any other popcorn." She was amazed. Wish I would have take a picture of her face. She just kept saying "this is popcorn?" "how does it get like this?" So I finally said "you know, it doesn't grow inside that little bag, somebody has to put the kernels in there." City folk. Master_Chief
Re: Country Living That's aewsome Tominator. Growing up down in Monroe county in a town of about 350 people was the best experience of my life. To many things like that are taken for granted. I think it is even worse with kids. jbeck
Re: Country Living LOL, I used to love the folks that came to the farm and comented on the number of wonderful pets we had there. We never explained that the only animals that left the farm without going in the freezer were the dogs and cats. LOL
huntn4bucks
Re: Country Living I grew up on a farm where we primarily grew soybeans and corn. We also had a 64 acre peach orchard and always raise a huge garden. One day at work I was talking about the peach trees and the subject changed to peanuts. This girl looked at me and ask, "You have peanut trees too?". I've never laughed so hard in my life. She just sat there with a puzzled look on her face. I guess you just had to be there. Guest Finn
Re: Country Living That's good. Never really thought about how popcorn grows just like other corn til I visited a farmer who grew in many years ago. Growing up in the country was great. I regret not being able to raise my kids there. Hopefully, we'll soon be back.
c_lou
Re: Country Living I enjoy taking my daughters to the family farm. Grandpa has a small garden with the typical vegies. Picking strawberries with my daughter was so much fun. We just went out and let them pick pumpkins. They had a blast. There is something special about seeing kids play in a garden. Orion_70
Re: Country Living That's just great! It's really amazing how "city folk" are just clueless.. There was a coyote off in the field behind our office in Orlando. One day he came up a lot closer and several others saw him, they called it everything under the sun including a Dingo, one woman actually thought about calling the zoo.... I was rolling... Sorry again. A little bout with cancer and a postal clerk got in the way of that one. PM me your address and I'll send some out to you. Luke stands to get a few pounds here soon, once it dries out.
