I don't mind seeing one word comments or smiley faces etc, as a reply. I guess what I'm trying to say is there are some post that will have 30 replies, and 20 of those are from the original person who posted. Even that's alright if the person is answering specific questions brought up in replies to the post; but most are just meaningless dribble, and aren't intended to clarify a position, nor answer a question. I can't even count how many times that a new member, who has been on a week, ask the question of when will they loose their fawn status and become a monster buck. The post count continues, regardless of the ranking. Once someone has reached 10,000 post everyone already knows that they are a "colossal moron", and once someone has been appointed as a moderator their monster buck status doesn't show anymore. ....popgun Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm just glad that there is a forum like the RT family where most of the people (if not all) are good people and like to voice there opinions, thoughts and ideas on hunting and other subjects to boot. Reading an interesting thread and providing insight and information is what I like to do. Never have I thought about seeing how many I could do in a day or set a goal to achieve some sort of Monster Moron status! I am here to make friends, somedays I just read and never post and sometimes I want to type something out. I am willing to bet that pretty much everyone here got caught up un post numbers at one time...It fades away with time. I respond to alot of posts with a congrats or whatever. I would rather see that then nothing at all, which would give the impression that not many people really cared that someone got their deer or whatever.. My .02. It is letting someone know that you read their post and congrats on a kill or what ever. I just don't see why raising the standards on the monster buck status would keep members here. The more valuable information a member provides the more his "rep power" goes up. It shows the other members that someone has good credibility, and information. The members are only allowed to give rep power every so often so as not to be able to boost "everyone of their buddies". They also cannot give rep power to the same person twice in a row. It needs to be spread around. Pretty neat thing actually.Here copy and pasted from www.bodybuilding.com How do I give reputation? There is an icon in the left bottom area of each post. Click the icon, and a window will pop up allowing you to give reputation (positive or negative) to a user. Do I have to participate in the reputation system? The reputation system is completely optional. But, by participating in discussion in our forums you are eligible to receive positive and negative reputation points from other users. What is reputation? The reputation system is very similar to the Karma system seen on other popular websites and forums (Slashdot.org, for example). Its purpose is to hopefully give users an idea of how respected, knowledgeable, helpful, gracious, etc., a person is. It is a system in which you rate your peers. It is a system that, hopefully, will make you think twice about your posts. Here is the formula used in the code: = intval( / 100); Why would reputation not count positive or negative? When a new user first starts out, their reputation does not count. What are good and bad things to give negative reputation for? Negative reputation should be given if the person is posting something that detracts from the conversation. If the post is rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc; these are all good reasons to give negative reputation. If you have a personal grudge with someone, their team, etc, is it not appropriate to give them negative reputation for no reason. Giving negative reputation because you don't agree with what was said is not an appropraite use of the reputation system. People are entitled to their own opinions, and just because you don't agree doesn't mean the user was wrong or not contributing to the conversation. How can I tell how much rep power somebody has? Under their username when the post will be a number next to the words: Rep Power. The link to it if you want to check it out. This would be nicer than getting bigger antlers if you ask me.
