VermontHunter
Re: Official Hockey thread Nationality, really never bothered me, as long as they can play hockey, which the better part of the majority can.... But one thing that has really got under my skin recenty is the Canadian public and media that has been attendding the Jr. World Cup games, where they are channting USA Sucks and scrolling it on the overhead scoreboard... I know for a fact if this was to happen here in the US the Canadian public would be outraged and calling for a formal apology... Why on GODS green earth would the media and the officials allow this to happen ?? I understand they can't control the people but they can control the scoreboard and what is advertised on it...... Any of you Canadian boys like to answer this for me ?? I don't want to hear it was Johnson's fault either,, we all agree it was a cheap hit, but this crap happens in hockey all of the time and Canadian players have more than their share of cheap shots.... [/ QUOTE ] It has happened in the US, and we do get upset by it. As for what is going on at the Jr's it's embarassing! A couple years ago Philly fans booed all the way through our national anthem, and as a sign of good will, when the next game was in toronto, you could hardly hear the US anthem for the cheering!!!! and I was really proud of our fans for that. I think if you listen closly to any Canadian media, you will find a lot of criticism towards the anti american sentiment. I know as a Canadian I appologize for this "CHILDISH" behavior! VermontHunter
Re: Official Hockey thread I agree it's totally embarrassing on both sides,,,, I must have missed that Philly game,,,not to say it didn't happen, but Im sure they didn't scroll CANADA SUCKS across the Jumbotron,,,, Booing the anthem I have seen from both sides, and I agree it's totaly wrong... but to have the arena's kick in and add to the stupidity and scroll USA SUCKS during a nationally televised sporting event just adds to the insult.... Man I hate to see this stuff in a sport I love so....
superguide
Re: Official Hockey thread It's not the nationality that gets me it's the "He's a European so he's automatically better crap." As for the arena scrolling that it makes me sick-not sure where that game was played but I'm pretty sure that site won't be getting any more games. It was lucky that U.S/ Russia game didn't get real bad right at the end-the refs and coaches didn't really have much control of the situation. When you are on the ice when teams start to headhunt it's pretty much a survival situation-I'll take a good scrap over that stickwork anyday but then I'm just an old Canadian hockey dinasoar. Back in the day-Johnson would of dropped his gloves-took his medicine and the world would of kept turning now there's going to be bad blood for a long long time. I never thought I would see a day when we cheered for the russians over the americans.
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Official Hockey thread SG, you know exactly what I was saying. You don't like European hockey players and we all know it But aren't the Canadians sorta "Eurpoean" as well. What about the "French" Canadians Are you "French" Canadian SG? Maybe that's why... the Canadians are associated with the French ...Yeah, I wuold probably hate them too I also know deep down inside, you like the Bruins Booing during any countries National Anthem (well almost) is un-called for especially Canada and other well known hockey countries. We wouldn't have the NHL if it wasn't for Canada! I love Canada. If I didn't live here, I would live in Canada
SaskMan
Re: Official Hockey thread I too can't believe how the fans were so pro Russia. I thought they were our arch enemy. I nver noticed the jumbo tron thing, likely wouldn't have though alot about it. I thought the Johnson elbpow was a cheap shot but who is going to drop the mitts in that tourney, not him not any Canadians. Cheap shots come from all over the place, I've seen some real ugly ones, Dino Ciccarelli, Todd Burtuzzi, those names come to mind. Theyre far from the only ones but they'll continue to happen...unfortunately.
superguide
Re: Official Hockey thread Geez where did the first Americans come from Treestand lol pretty much the same places the first Canadians did I always thought. Anybody who lives out west here and isn't a Flames or Oilers fan (just shakes his head). The toughest European and one I do respect was Borje Salming he came into a tougher league and stuck it out. College and International hockey have some very artistic stick work-just watch the play away from the puck sometime. Geez Saskman you couldn't think of Ulf Samuelson when thinking of cheap shots or is he a long lost cousin-he was the biggest kneeshot coward the league has ever seen-just another European skill I guess. SaskMan
Re: Official Hockey thread Here's my 5 favorite players of all time Lemieux Trottier Nystrom Bossy Goulet Yes Gretzky was the best ever but can you tell I was and am an Islander fan, couldn't like Gretz after the oilers dethroned them. If this list makes me a European lover than I guess I am guilty as charged.
superguide
Re: Official Hockey thread There's no Europeans there methinks perhaps you are seeing the light-I'd have to replave Goulet on that list with Stevie Y and Lemieux with Gretzky because I'm an oiler fan -as an old Islander fan who does Comeau remind you of on the Stanley Cup winning teams. I was just wondering about your selective memory at times lol.

[/ QUOTE ] SG insults me too in his own way so I do it back...in my own way Alrighty Bruins fans, tonight we got Ottawa. The last time they played I was at the game and the Bruins SHUT THEM OUT The Sens have some of their best guys out so we need to take advantage of them tonight. I wish the Bruins would play the Oilers more often though, that would be a for sure win....just take them into OT and the Oilers will lose

superguide
Re: Official Hockey thread I never insult a man who finally starts to see the light-I bleed the Maple Leaf when it comes to hockey. I feel pretty vindicated after tonight my underskilled, underrated CANADIAN boys are wearing the gold-Sutter outcoached Russia and we outplayed them in EVERY facet of the game. Like Ryan Burke said 'You can read your own press clippings but you still have to get off the bus and deliver.' Ouyr defence took away the center of the ice and we dominated the boards-as long as hockey is about offence and defence-I'm betting Maple Leaf every time-everywhere. I wish they'd of counted the Russian goal I don't think it would of mattered once-our intangible is the heart that beats under the Maple Leaf. VermontHunter
Re: Official Hockey thread IMHO I think the US did their usual laxy dazy over-confindent routine as usual,, and just weren't prepared for their opponents... ,, they definately had the talent and experience to beat any tem they played.... OH WELL they got their's, and all there is to it.... Team Canada, out played and out classed every opponent they met and the better team won.... I say CONGRATS to them on their victory, they sure deserved it... I just hope Team USA is better prepaired in the Olympics.....
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Official Hockey thread Where are you guys watching this olympic hockey at??? I looked through the on-line TV guide and I never see it? Seriously, if you would take the NHL and divide it into two conferences...USA and Canada/European, I truly believe Canada/European conference would take the Stanley Cup every year.We don't bred the hockey players that other countries do. VermontHunter
Re: Official Hockey thread Mike the World Jr. Games were tlevised on TSN and some of them were on quite late....You would have been sawing wood by then... superguide
Re: Official Hockey thread Boy there's some great Canadian talent headed your way next year-Staal to the Rangers,Downey,Chipchura-Flyers,Comeau-Islanders-there's more but I can't remember them right off hand-the Leafs have Pogge and the good Finnish goalie. The U'S hockey program is doing O"K some great talent but college doesn't prepare you for the NHL like Canadian Major Junior does-those kids who apprentice in the WHL are battle hardened for these big tests. The U'S problem was behind the bench as much as on the ice. I watched the Canada/Russia game again today-still sweet 24 hours later lol.
