Who all has missed?

Re: Who all has missed?

After missing five times last year for mostly unseen obstructions I was able to put the smack down 14 minutes into this season on an eight point at 12 yards. I guess I just needed incentive. I have to say that when I drew back on my bow opening morning that I thought about whether or not I would miss.

Heck yes it's happened,....it's funny how we mammals learn from our mistakes. Too high or too low. I'm contantly ranging a going through scenarios in my mind. Keeps me busy on stand.

Good luck all!!

Re: Who all has missed?

There's 2 kinds of bowhunters. Those that have missed and those that are going to miss. IMHO anybody that hasn't missed yet hasn't shot at enough deer yet.

Lil, I've missed too many deer over the years to list reasons, etc. Suffice it to say in 30+ years of bowhunting I've shot over them, under them, had them move out of the way before the arrow arrived, misjudged yardage, caught deflections, centered saplings, caught loosly fit clothing with my bow string, hit obstructions with the limb of my bow, and the list could go on. grin.gif

Re: Who all has missed?

I've missed several...but the most memorable was a once-in-a-lifetime 12 pointer (gun or rifle!!) at 20 yards, broadside.

I still have no idea how / where that arrow went.

Not believing that I had missed, I was rooting around in the ferns trying to find the arrow for 'sign', and when I looked up, to add insult to injury, there was the deer standing looking at me...of course he bolted right off.

we all miss from time to time, when it happens its a good time to reflect what happened and apply it to future hunts. i think that its all part of the game, and it shows us that there is always more to learn

Re: Who all has missed?

I missed on Sunday at a large doe at 25 yards. That's my 3rd miss with the bow, the first was at a 4 point, second a doe. I really wanna get this monkey off my back with the bow, I've never killed anything with my bow. I've got 2 misses with shotgun at a nice 8 point. (He didn't move after the first shot) However I don't mind that miss anymore since I shot a bigger buck a week later from the same blind.

My latest miss was due to a misjudging of yardage as far as I can tell, she first came out at 30 yards, I was on the ground, and right as I was cliping the release to the string a doe stepped out 5 yards from me, and immediately busted me of course. For whatever reason, the doe in the field continued toward me and I took the shot, no sound of a hit, no blood, no hair, did a lot of searching. Lost my arrow, oh well it happens. I just have bad luck with the bow. I actually lost the first deer I ever hit with the bow last year, I actually searched for a long time but never found a drop of blood or even a hair. Later while shed hunting I found the back half of my arrow in the middle of a deer trail 150 yards from where I took the shot. Hope she made it, funny thing was I even searched that area where I found the arrow, yet I never found it or any sign there.
