Got an 8 ptr

I got an eight pointer this morning but I doubt it'll qualify for the contest. I just left him lay and went to work.

This is because my weapon of choice was my brand new 2005 F-150 4x4. shocked.giffrown.gif

I am beside myself. I've been on the phone with the IL state police (who have been pretty helpful thus far) and the insurance co since about 4:50am. I'm not only upset that my truck is bombed, I was disappointed with myself because I didn't have knife with me to at least cut out the loins.

I never even saw him until it was too late. I hit him going about 60mph, flipped him up in air and all I saw were his hoofs sticking about my hood. So I slowed down felt him fall off and go under each tire, bump, bu-dump, and proceded to stop and look over the damage.

My license plate... adios, air dam... gone, chrome bumper... wasted, plastic bumper... wasted, grill...wasted, one fog lamp...gone. My transmission cooler is smashed into my radiator and am getting a small leak from it. This thing is my baby. frown.gif

Then I walked over to deer. I saw it had a pedicle and one small antler. So I walked down the road and found the other antler broke in two. It had a spot from where I drug him down the road until he decided to let go. So I've got the broken antler for a souvenoir I guess. Dang it I'm so PO'd.

Above all it was the weeniest year and half deer I had ever seen. It was really a glorified Spike with a few inch long points along the way. I guess we don't have to worry about him passing his genes on.

I think I'm going to change my sig to "Smitteken...natures way of thinning the herd".

I wonder how many people won't read the story and just say "Congrats". grin.gif

Sorry to hear about the accident. My buddy did that several years ago. After he hit the deer, he immediately put to the side of the road and walked over to the buck only to see another truck come by and break the antlers right off. He walked away from the accident and his truck still bears the inpression of the deer on his brush guard.

Really sorry to hear about that. Glad it wasn't worse though.

Here's something I have always wondered: Do those things they sell to scare off the deer really work?? You know...the little devices you attach to the front of your vehicle??

Re: Got an 8 ptr

That happened to me two years ago driving to MN before rifle season. It truly ruined my whole hunt. We were stranded at 2am in -10 degree weather. Same type of damage. We hit a doe, though. She was mush when we found her.

You're lucky you were driving an F150 and not a Ranger.

Don't worry about the truck, it is inanimate and can be replaced. I'm sure a lot of people have said that, but there are an inordinate amount of people who die each year from deer-vehicle accidents.

Replace the truck and have a good season.

Re: Got an 8 ptr

Thats too bad man! But it could be worse, a co-worker of my cousin's hit 4 does last friday on the highway! He said there was a group of atleast 7 deer, and he hit 3 with the front of his car, and one ran into the passenger door. Totaled his car, and filled 3 tags to boot! LOL! But in all honesty, I feel for you, your new truck, and that scrawny lil buck
