HarvDog
I started thinking about this while I was hunting from my hangon stand last Saturday. It was pretty windy and the trees were swaying...including the one I was in. The mind starts to wander... What would I do if this tree starts to fall? Here I am strapped to it, 15' in the air. I guess there's not much you really could do, huh? Just hold on and PRAY!!! I know ya'll have thought about this too...come on now!

JimT
Re: What would you do? Fall... . There is no way I could get out of my harness in time to jump to another tree. Someone here had their tree fall last year.. J.B. I think maybe? I bring my phone with me in case something happens, and always make sure it is in my pocket not in my fanny pack. need2hunt
Re: What would you do? If I remember I think one of the words of wisdom an this subject was... Don't buy the most expensive safety harness as the paramedics are just going to cut through it anyway

hutchies
Re: What would you do? I make sure I am in a good size Oak. While I am going up it if I feel uncomfortable for any reason about that tree I go down and find another tree. I will probably get flamed for this but I don't totally screw closed the clip. I screw it closed just enough that if I heard the tree going it would only take me a few seconds to unscrew and either jump or find a way to a safer place. I have sat in some skinny trees before but have never been scared of them breaking. More afraid of falling asleep and waking up dangling by my safety strap. Hoyt03
Re: What would you do? When in the wind i usually set up in a good sized tree, but the thought has crossed my mind many times. If it gets real bad i will leave

AaronS
Re: What would you do? Ok I haven't seen many serious answers yet so I'll start, because I've thought about this same thing. I would do all I could to make sure I was on the up side of the tree and had no body parts between the tree and ground. It may not be possible, but I'd sure be trying. Guest Andrea
Re: What would you do? I don't go THAT high. About 18 - 20 feet at the most. I sit in a tree-facing climber and NEVER stand up. ( Afraid of heights) So.....I start climbing in the sitting position and get up where I need to be, adjust the foot rest, shoot a deer, and lower my self all while sitting. And I have a pretty high bar that wraps all the way around me.
Orion_70
Re: What would you do? I was up in a small pine tree one time hunting. I had to get way up about 40 ft, to get to cover, I usually only hunt about 15-20 ft. A storm started coming in and the wind really picked up. The next thing I know I'm swaying back and forth all over the place, then I hear a "pop" from that tree. Let me tell you, that stand was almost sliding down that tree I was coming down so fast, the tree didn't fall but whew, what a scare. If I'm ever up in one that starts to come down, I'm just going to try to be on the topside or be jumping like a squirrel to another tree and I don't care how big the other tree is

Guest mnarcher
Re: What would you do? I have been sitting here thinking about what I would do and I really don't know. I guess if the wind started to pick up I would probably get down. I make sure the tree that I am getting in is a good solid tree with no dead stuff in it. My biggest fear would be another tree falling and wiping me off the tree that I was sitting in. I have seen some fall while in the woods and that scares me more. For those of you that don't wear a harness your STUPID!! I bet if you did a poll there are more bowhunters killed each year from falling out of tree then there are from anything else. RangerClay
Re: What would you do? I would make a smart decision as to which tree I hung it in. All mine go on a live, solid hardwood like an oak. Secondly, if the wind is blowing that hard and you are up in a tree you deserve to get squashed like bug Ranger
