ladydiehard
Scenario: Its raining and the feather fletchings are soaked. How does this affect their flight? What do you do when it rains if you use feathers?
VtBowhunter
Re: Rain and Feathers If the bow is properly tuned and the arrows are spined right for the set-up, then it won't effect the arrow at all.........but you'll want to shorten you shooting distance in the rain, to avoid any possible problems. In my experience I won't got out if it's raingin so hard that my feathers will get soaked. Shooting a deer in those conditions will leave no blood trail, so to me it's too risky. vagobbln
Re: Rain and Feathers I use vanes so I don't have to worry about it, but I have some friends who use a light coating of hairspray on their feathers. They say it works well unless it's just pouring. The stuff they make for dry flies would probably work as well.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Rain and Feathers The water proofing spray you buy for boots works good. But again, if it is pouring you really need to question why you are out bowhunting. I spray all my feathers. Many times I walk out in the morning through standing corn. With the dew on the corn, everything gets soaked. The spray helps repell the water on the feathers.

ladydiehard
Re: Rain and Feathers Thanks for the advice guys. It wasn't pouring Saturday, just a light drizzle switching to mist then back to drizzle with alot of water coming off the trees. Still quite a few leaves on the trees holding water. Wind would kick up and DUMP it from time to time. It was a miserable day actually.
