Shaun_300 Posted November 5, 2005 Report Share Posted November 5, 2005 Last night (Thursday) I got off work, hopped in the truck and was pumped up for the hockey game that I was going to in Ottawa. I went to pull out onto the boulevard by work to go home and didn't see a big truck coming around the corner. I saw it as soon as I pulled out and put it to the floor. Right as I did that, the truck cut out. My gauges went bizzark, my fuel gauge went to Full, my speedometer went crazy and all the other gauges stayed the same. I was able to steer it into the median where I raised the hood, took off the breather and checked my fuel connetions. The same thing had happened two weeks ago and when I removed the breather, the truck started. Anyways, the truck still didn't start, it was 5:10pm, and now with the time change, it was dang near pitch black. Luckily Dan, one of the guys I work with was right behind me and we pushed the truck back into the car lot at the dealership. He said "Take my truck for the night and just pick me up tomorrow morning" What a relief! It was 5:20 by the time I left the town I work at. I managed to get home in time and get to the hockey game. I picked Dan up this morning at 7:30 and got a chance to look at the truck in the daylight. I got to thinking about the gauges going nuts, and figured it must be a problem with the ECM. (Electronic Computer Module) I checked the ground for the ECM and sure enough, it was broke off. So I wheeled the truck into the shop on my lunch break and repaired the broken ground, and now it runs like a top! Dad was just in the bush about 10 miles from any road last weekend, so thankfully it didn't break down back there. It couldn't happened in a better spot, 50 yards from the GM dealership where I work as a mechanic. Dad was planning on taking the truck into the hunt camp for the week, and luckily I got it repaired in time for him to take it. The more I think of it the better it seems, dad is an accountant, so he's not very mechanically inclined, thankfully it happened where it did... it could have been a lot worse! Ya i had a similar problem with my brand new chevy...well actually i just found out exactly how far you can get after teh low fuel light comes on before you run out of gas. lol Luckily i had 5 gallons in the back.
