ksdeerhunter03
I really started seeing the bucks today, I had a 160-165 10 Point come to the antlers mid morning but hung up at 60 yards! Tonight I saw 11 bucks over 140"!!! Things are starting to heat up everyone, what have you all seen?
TM2FLI
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Saw a dozen bucks chasing a doe yesterday. Had a buck every fifteeen minutes come by the stand in shooting distance. Sat in the stand for 9 hrs. The woods were crashing all day with bucks goin crazy and fighting. Too bad I couldn't go today. I'll tell you how tomorrow morning goes. The rut kicked in hard and fast, that's for sure!
Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Kansas Hunters.... hunting friday morning I called in a 110" 8 point. He was dogging a doe but left her to check out my grunt call. Gave him a get out of jail free card cuz he'll be a real nice deer in about two years. I also found a 60" 4 point shed that would score better if it didn't have it's brow nearly chewed off... I think it may have also had a G4 that was completely chewed off so have my eyes looking for him. Only saw a few more deer during the day because it was so darn hot. Saturday was even hotter and saw no bucks. Today was a good day, much cooler and it really kicked up the action. Saw two shooter bucks but couldn't get a shot at either. They were coming to calls though. One of them ended up fighting with another buck off in the timber, I couldn't see it but could hear it. Talk about a ruckus. Two more days of hot weather before an expected cool down.

ksdeerhunter03
Re: Kansas Hunters.... I finally started seeing a little more 'rut like' movement sunday night. I saw 13 bucks sunday that scored 145" or better, the biggest being the massive 14 point that will push 200" easily.

Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Monday saw the return of warm weather. I went an hour later than I usually go and saw a decent, but young, 8 point chasing a doe about 1.5 miles from where I hunt. I saw a small 4 point chasing a doe about 120 yards across a clearing from my setup. Something must've spooked him, possible a larger buck because shortly after I lost sight of him, here he came going the other direction. I've also been seeing quite a few turkeys. Later during the evening, I saw a big buck chasing a doe about 2 miles from one of my hunting spots. I couldn't tell what he was other than big. I didn't even hunt today and though you can't kill a deer if you're not hunting, I didn't feel like sitting in a stand in shorts and a tank top in the 80 degree weather. You can bet I'll be up early tomorrow with the return of cooler weather. They are really starting to chase in SE Kansas.
Tominator
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Very cool. Heating up here in Ohio too. Now if the weather would cool off, maybe my buddy ohiobucks can tag a monster. He's due.

Guest tarbaby
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Last weekend had a nice 8pt with some junk chasing a doe pretty hard. He ran over a bunch of saplings like they were nothin just to keep up with her. Supposed to cool down a little i think this weekend but 60's is still a little warm for me to get to excited. But u bet if the girlfriend allows... i will be out all day this weekend. Good luck to ya all

TM2FLI
Re: Kansas Hunters.... I'm going to try and get out as much as I can this week. Every morning I have been out for 5 hours minimum. **** one day was almost all day except 2 hrs. After seeing those 12 bucks run that doe right under me I can't wait to go and see something like that again! Also need to get my KS lifetime hunting license before I move! Guest tarbaby
Re: Kansas Hunters.... I'll be sure and tell her the reason why I'm hunting and not with her is because my friends at RT told me too. That would go over just about as good as a fart in church. Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Wouldn't ya know it, the day before pristine hunting weather and I get a cold.... didn't keep me from hunting the entire day though. Total I saw 16 deer. 4 bucks, 2 shooters. Of course, the first shot I've had all season and I put an arrow right over a beautiful 135 class 8 points back. It couldn't have been a more perfect opportunity. He saw my decoy and comes on a rope then I blow the shot right over his back. Guess that's why they call it hunting and not killing. Another cool weather day in store for tomorrow. Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Kansas Hunters.... another eventful morning.... still fighting this cold but the deer were moving again. I saw 3 different young bucks running a group of does. A forkie, a young 7 and a smallish 8 point. ksdeerhunter, are you having much success rattling?? I've never had this much trouble rattling in deer. And you're right about the deeks..... I'm using the Renzo decoys, the buck and the doe in combination. I decoyed a doe group to 40 yards last night. I hoped they'd have a buck with them but no dice.
ksdeerhunter03
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Yeah, I rattle em in all the time, I like to rattle bedding areas between 10-2 thats when the bigger bucks will normally come in. I only use a buck decoy, 20 yards upwind of me and facing the woods, like he is looking for a doe or a buck. Good luck!
KTMMIKE
Re: Kansas Hunters.... It's been a little slow for me overall yet. Last Friday the 4th was awesome though. Lots of deer moving that morning. Could hardly sleep that night & looking forward to the next morning's hunt. Saw 0 deer the next morning & not much since then. However a few mornings that I haven't hunted I've seen bucks chasing does around our backyard. Good luck to everyone!
Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Saw the same doe group tonight that I did last night. This time the forkie I saw this morning came in to check them out.... grunting all the way. He offered me a perfect broadside shot at 25 yards but I passed. I knew something was up when he started staring back into the timber. Then I heard the distinct sound of a mature buck grunting. Too bad he didn't show up in the clover. I figure that one of those does is getting close to estrous, hopefully she'll bring a biggun' with her tomorrow. Incidentally, I'm been hunting exclusively from the ground this year. Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Kansas Hunters.... Today I had an unbelievable hunt... This morning found me set up on a clover field that is between an 80 acre block of timber(posted) and a big wooded draw(landowner saves that part for himself). As previously written, on Wednesday I had a shot at a 130-140 class 8 point in the clover and proceeded to shoot over the deer. I hadn't seen this deer since and didn't have much hope of doing so. This morning 3 does fed in the clover at about 45-60 yards... past my comfortable range... eventually returning to the timber. I was scanning the draw and saw a doe acting really goofy so I put the glasses on her to find she was following/chasing a bobcat, periodically stopping to stomp and snort at the cat. After her adventure she went back the way she came. 20 minutes or so had passed and I looked back her way and saw another deer in the pasture. I could tell it was a buck so again I got the binocs and much to my surprise, it was the same 8 point from earlier in the week. He was headed my way and I had perfect wind. He closed the distance quickly, jumped the fence and stopped a mere 100 yards from my location. I grunted to get his attention and he immediately saw my buck and doe decoys then started a slow walk my way. I thought for sure I was going to get an improbable second chance at a P&Y whitetail. All of the sudden, he looks in my general direction but he's definitely looking past me. I slowly turned to look behind me but didn't even get my head fully around when I heard the distinct sound of metal banging.... the landowner was heading up the field edge to close a gate someone had left open the night before. How he didn't see that beautiful buck standing in the green clover I'll never know but I watched him retreat and slink off into the timber. I'm done hunting for awhile and will be headed back to Wichita to play office jockey until Thanksgiving. I had a decent hunt but wish I would've connected on at least a doe; I guess I have rifle season for that. I saw deer every day and had 2 shooter bucks within bow range while hunting from the ground. I only have myself to blame for blowing the one opportunity I had at a decent buck.
