tedicast
I have a small piece of property (7 acres) that I bow hunt. It is almost all lawn, with some edge cover. We have 2 stands set up, a ladder on the lower end of the property, and a hang on about 80 yards away, midway through the property. I get to the ladder stand about 5:15 this morning, about an hour before shooting light. This is the same stand that last Saturday I had a nice buck under my stand before it was light. About 6:40 a deer comes out of the woods, about 60 yards away from me, then another, and another, 6 total, all does. They proceeded to where the hang on stand is, and fed there for 1/2 hour before the neighbor across the street brought his dog out for a walk, and they took off. If I had been in the hang on stand this morning, chances are I would have had my pick. There were 2 real big mature does. Anyone wanna take bets on what happenes tomorrow morning? I'll be sitting in the hang on, and the deer will congregate around the ladder! I just know it, it's my luck...lol

Like when I'm in the woods with a shotgun, deer stand there....when I have a bow, grouse are all over. Good luck!

beagleboy
Re: Wrong Stand Can't fool their noses. They know where they need to go to escape danger. Chances are if you had been in that stand they would have come out by the other stand. Good luck bowhunting, they'll slip out once the rut kicks in if it hasn't already. tedicast
Re: Wrong Stand...update!!! Well...I went to the hang on stand this morning. Right at first light. The buck from last week walked buy at about 60 yards. I grunted at him and he stopped. i grunted softly again, and he hightailed it back the way he came. I think I scared him...lol. Around 7 am, I see 2 deer cross the road, and where do they go? Of course down the path that gives me a 15 yard shot from my ladder stand!!!! Oh well. A few minutes later 3 more deer took the same path. figures! About 8 am I hear deer running, and a bunch of does come about 50 yards from my stand. a little 4" spike was harrassing the heck out of them. I watched him chase does for at least 40 minutes. Of course none came in shooting range. All in all it was a pretty cool morning. Will be back in the ladder before work Monday morning. Anyone wanna take bets on where the deer will be? tedicast
Re: Wrong Stand...update!!! [ QUOTE ] how about a ground blind half-way between the two stands.... [/ QUOTE ] I was actually looking at that today. There is a barn, and a couple old tractors about half way. I bet a ground blind wouldn't even be noticed. Gonna have to wait untill next year as our archery season ends on tuesday.
Guest kscumminsdriver
Re: Wrong Stand...update!!! can you hunt out of the barn?? or just use a tractor for cover?? we have an old barn on one of our pieces of ground and we removed part of a plank and built a platform inside to hunt from. the deer are none the wiser and the best part is it protects you from the elements and lets you get away with a lot of movement. We mainly use it as a doe stand. I also hunt a big clover field by using the bales as my blind(s). I hunt behind different bales depending on the conditions and deer movement. Tominator
Re: Wrong Stand...update!!! Don't you love it when they do that? lol. We've had a few play hide and seek with us like that this year. Top of the hill, bottom of the hill, roll the dice, let's see what comes up.
