Washi
I think he was hit in the leg last year with an arrow and now has a limp and an uneven rack. Will his rack always be like that or just this year? I think I hit him in the leg last year because I hit a barbed wire fence. It's only a slight limp and he looks in good shape. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Uneven rack buck with a limp. Unless the wound is somehow causing him to not get enough nutrition, I wouldn't think the two (limp and uneven rack) are related. Odds are that he had some other type of injury to the antler during the growing stage.
fisherguy
Re: Uneven rack buck with a limp. I have heard the same thing, and witnessed three bucks that were injured on one side and had a messed up antler on the other.

I wonder what the physiological reason is for that? It's news to me. Thanks guys, I think I'll post the question in the Management Forum! 6sixpoint_nobrows
Re: Uneven rack buck with a limp. [ QUOTE ] from what i've read and seen it's not uncommon for a deer that has sustained an injury to have some kind of abnormality on it's rack and it's very likely to carry over from year to year.quite often the abnormality will be on the opposite side of the injury. [/ QUOTE ] same here...i would prolly take him out if i get that chance...good luck!

" It is well known that the right part of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa. In deer, an injury to the leg on one side of the body shows up as malformed antlers on the opposite side. This condition usually manifests itself for the rest of the deer's life and is known as contralateral condition " It is also noted that this contralateral condition is more commonly seen in antler deformities in rear leg injuries.
