hutchies Posted December 1, 2005 Report Share Posted December 1, 2005 My brother in law and I have been talking to the local Game Wardens about why the ODW won't open up all of rifle and muzzleloader to doe hunting. The 2 locals said they have both suggested it always just gets passed by. They said we should come to the outdoor meeting to bring it up. So many place around here are on D-Map where they are getting to kill 50 plus does it is rediculous. I think opening it up would help control the ratio and the local wardens are always telling us that more does need to be kill. Would you guys support this idea for Rifle and ML seasons? Earlier this year I was hunitng in the panhandle and there are soo many does out there but your only allowed to shoot them with a gun. I have been pondering this for years and the wardens have always told me that it was a valid idea but the ODW has not ever paid attention when they proposed it. I simply think that the OWD needs to evaluate EACH County and set up regulations for each county. Hughes County is dwindling and we need all of our does we can get. Granted we have the special doe seasons, but if they really want to do something.... encourage hunters and dont limit the hunting days. On the other topic, I think the region basis is important. Not so much for in-state hunters but increasing the number of tags for out of state hunters. Not only are leasing prices going up but the # of out of state licenses and tags are increasing. Prices have become so high in Texas the ODW were getting pressure from out of state Texas hunters for a longer deer season. The ODW wants you to take a doe, but they way the regs are, they make it hard for some folk. I mean, you can only tag 1 doe, make the doe days everyday during gun and ML season in every region. What is the purpose in certain days, that may limit someone from taking a doe that normally would, just cause of it being a NON doe day. And like HSOG said, it's all about the green. I am simply wanting them to let us shoot them on whatever day we hunt. In Texas we get 1 buck, 2 does in the county I am in no matter when you shoot them.
