Those are jackrabits...they are considered pests and cause extreme damage to crops in farm communities in the high desserts of California. Don't know if that is where the pic was taken but the landscape looks like it could be. I used to hunt them like that when I lived out there. You could shoot that many in one night hunting the alfalfa fields through depredation permits and still have massive overpoulation. We didn't even collect the bodies...we left them for the coyotes, they were to stringy and gamey to eat, and we wanted to encurage the coyotes in that area to help control the rabbits naturaly. [/ QUOTE ] You are correct Muggs...but in the area I am refering too the farmers lump them together since the cotton tails in those areas are just as destructive and the meat is equaly stringy/nasty.
