Another big NY nontypical...

This deer was killed during gun season about 35 minutes north of my house in Ontario County...near Canandaugia. The big guy has 17-pts. with 4 droptines. According to the Northeast Big Buck Club it scores close to 190". He's a pretty nice western Finger Lakes buck to say the least grin.gif. Man...he's gotta be pushing 24" inside!

Yeah, we get some nice deer in the state every year...nothing like you guys have in the midwest though crazy.gif. Our deer have alot of potential, especially in the western half of the state where there's more agriculture...but unfortunately, most of our bucks never make it past 1.5 yrs. of age due to the incredible amounts of hunting pressure.

Re: Another big NY nontypical...

I did not know we had the potential for such a buck? Are you sure he didn't kill it in a pen and said he killed it in the open range? ha ha ha!!!!

yeah, the bucks in NY are not given the opportunity to grow!!! NY hunters tend to kill the first buck they see. But the state law allows it!!!

Re: Another big NY nontypical...

That thing is amazing.

I saw 3 big bucks in NY this year prior to the season, and I've seen the pics that a member of our archery club has.......some real whoppers.

The Northeast has the potential, but as stated, we have a massive amount of pressure as well.

Just this year, a hunter found a set of shed antlers on our land and that buck figured to score 160 at least......if you look at the state record in Vermont it's only in the 140's I believe........this old boy would shatter that.

Since when does NY have all these great lookin bucks?! Huge racks, mass, huge body, how is this possible?

They have always been here. You just have to know where to find them. In my area of the state, heck with in 20 miles of me, every year there are 8 or 10 bucks taken that will score anywhere from 145-175. every year. Did you see the state record Muzzle loader buck taken a couple of years ago by Dan Andera, in Cattaraugus County? These deer are taken every year. People are just starting to notice a little more.

WOW!! That's one heck of a buck for anywhere!! Especially NY!! This is now like the 5th or 6th big buck killed in NY this year...

Yeah, and if we had statewide AR, they would be putting the credit on AR.........But we don't. We have good deer and always have had them. It's just that they are not behind every tree. I suppose that's why they are called a trophy. Probably wouldn't mean a whole lot of everyone could get one, would it?

I agree this is an awesome example of what could happen if the bucks were able to grow mature in NY state!! Great buck, congrats to him smile.gif
