Plans for out of state Gobbler?

Anyone have plans for an out of state gobbler this spring? I'm getting one together for a Rio in TX. I'll probably go down the second weekend in April & combine it with a hog hunt. Then maybe in 07 a PA hunt----that hopefully will give 3/4 of the slam. I not sure I want to pay big dollars for an Osceola. CB

Re: Plans for out of state Gobbler?

I'm headed to the King Ranch for a Rio hunt in April with 5 friends of mine and I'm planning on making a trip to Missouri too. I may take a spin up to Iowa after my Missouri trip if I draw a tag up there. I might be overdoing it a bit this year but I used to take an out of state trip every year and haven't made one in 4 or 5 years. At 51 I figure my tank is down to about a 1/3 now so I might as well enjoy my passion for spring turkey hunting to the fullest while I still can. wink.gif

Some day I would like to go back to Tennessee (went to grad school there) and hunt with one of my buddies who lives there, but it won't likely be this year with my work schedule like it is.

Rhino---You & I are in the same boat. I'm 51 in Feburary. Plan on more hunts now & alot less work !!

Borch----You after Merriams. They are a blast. This will be my 1st Rio hunt----I heard they REALLY like to gobble.

Need2hunt----You & I were on the same team last--correct? I think you got a MO last spring.

I am planning on hunting Ga, Sc, Tn, Ky, and Tx. I will have two of my Pro Staffer's with me on the Tn, Sc, Ky, and Tn hunts and maybe a third on the Texas hunt.

Re: Plans for out of state Gobbler?

Should be a good year in most of Texas. I'm seeing tons of birds right now. I've got a group of 9 toms that come by a corn feeder almost every morning. 4 of them are easily over 10 inches and one has a double beard. The Fall season is open right now, but I don't feel like sniping one with the 7 mag. I might try for one with a handgun if I get bored from deer hunting, but I'll probably just wait until Spring.

I applied but we will see for....

Minnesota, South Dakota Black Hills and Wisconsin.

How does the non-residency work in Missouri or Oklahoma? Thank you! smile.gif

You need to come to Newton Hills State Park in the southeastern part of SD, I hunt Merriams, Rios, and Eastern up and down those wooded bluffs! Ah, the memories! You get a Lincoln county tag this spring and I'll help you bag your gobbler. Seriously!

Hey Bob, I'll trade you a good Eastern Turkey Hunt for an Elk hunt? My buddy has a large flock on his property that we hunt and I'm sure he would swap Turkey for Elk! wink.gifgrin.gif
