Luckily I have booked my time right for this week, and I am pretty sure I can get out every morn and night. My situation: The deer are all over my stand within bowrange, and they have ripped up the apple pile to the leaves (through a foot of snow). Obviously, they are hitting the whole stand location like crazy because I have deer walking in and out from every which way, and it looks like a cattle herd where the apple pile is and theres poo EVERYWHERE. Now I went out and put a new supply of apples in its area, 25 yards from the stand. They have been without apples for about 1 week, but are there anyways hitting the salt lick and pawing around for more apples. SO, what I want to know is, other than just timing, what can I do to bring that buck in, is it still too late to grunt or rattle? What about scent? Do you think they start to lose their antlers at this time of year? And are they still moving at dawn and dusk? If you have a really low buck to doe ration rattling won't work because the bucks know there are enoguh does around that fighting probably isn't neccessary. Time of day varys from area to area as well. If it's really cold, under 20degress, deer will tend to move more in the daylight hours when it's warmer to conserve energy. Try to spend one entire day on stand and that should give you an idea of what the movement is like. Yes, antlers will start dropping any time know so be sure of ehat you're shooting at. I would think that getting a buck this time of year is just a matter of luck of the draw. If a buck is going to come in you never know when it's going to be. Good luck.
