Swamphunter
This is a big question...lots of variables you didn't cover... 1. How big is the property? 2. What season do you hunt the most early, pre rut, rut or late season? 3. What is the buck to doe ratio in your area? If you hunt the early season, hunt between the bedding and feeding areas if you can determine them. Bucks are always tough for me to find during the early season anyways. If hunting the pre rut...locate scrapes and rubs in the woods, along the edges of fields and sit up in another 50 yards. These are called staging areas. Before the rut deer thend to concentrate more on feeding than on does. If hunting the rut...hunt where you see does. Try some Tinks69 or some other type doe in heat scent and maybe try soft rattling or soft doe bleats or buck grunts. If hunting the late season... back to the food sources. Bucks will now go in survival mode and try to consume as much as they can to recuperate from the rut. Best advice is to keep getting out there and looking around. Try still hunting, excellent way to learn what the deer are doing on your property. I also suggest subscribing to a magazine like Deer and Deer hunting, or poking around this forum a lot. That is the best way to gather knowledge in the off season! Hope this helps. Welcome to the forums by the way!!
wtnhunt
Re: Hunting private land... Welcome to the forums. Swamphunter gave some great advice there. Keep at it and be patient. If the does are there and you are where they are at the right time the bucks will be somewhere nearby, it is only a matter of time.
