Saturday's Hunt

Well I could only hunt a few hours this morning, but I still knew I wanted to be out there. It was a perfect morning and I was in my treestand before daylight. I was hunting a spot for the first time, and it was real thick w/ very few shooting lanes. Right at 8:00 I saw a doe coming my way down a trail and behind her I could see a small buck (turned out to be a 4 pt). He followed her to within about 20 yards and then he bedded down while she fed. Soon she was leaving, so when he stood I drew and he stepped into a shooting lane. I put the pin where I wanted and released. I heard a "THWACK!" and he jumped and took a few quick steps then stopped. My arrow had dead centered a small tree. To be honest, I must have been shaking like a leaf because I missed him pretty bad. He snuck on up the hill and didn't offer a good shot again. Neither deer spooked bad, he just wandered off, the doe never really reacted. I climbed down later and removed my arrow from the small tree.

I know that you don't get that many perfect opprotunities, and I flubbed this one up.

Re: Saturday\'s Hunt

How does dirt taste. I had 4 deer come in this morning. I had a shot at a spike but let him walk. He was all fidgety and was running one of the does. She ran away from him, right in front of me, I was fidgety, excited, scared if I didn't hurry that I'd miss the shot. Well, I hurried too much and missed. This is better than making a bad shot and I definitely learned from the experience. Its the 1st animal I've missed with my bow but a very valuable experience. I can't rush shots! I'm going back in the morning with renewed excitement. I shot my bow tonight and its on so it had to be me. I let the deers excitment get to me. They don't bother me too bad if they are just walking along feeding but I got caught up in the moment. Like I said, I'll be back out tomorrow to see what happens. I saw around 10 deer today so they're moving pretty good. Wish me luck and patience. Greg
