Kansas SUCCESS!

Well everyone, My luck continues as I just got back from my Kansas Do it Yourself hunt and brought this boy home. He was chasing does and ended up under my stand. I shot him between the shoulders as his sixth sense told him there was something amiss. I drew as I turned in the stand thinking he was going to keep on coming. I could not hold for as long as he stood leaving me no choice but to take the shot as I did. The wind was blowing real hard, but I was still afraid he'd catch me if I drew down. (it has happened like this before)

I am burnt out from the driving and the physical aspects of this type of hunt. Dragging him out was weeks worth of pushups in itself. Between naps I managed to get these pic up. He has split brow tines that the photographer failed to capture. I'd like to see the buck that broke his G3 on his left side. He was in a heck of tussel evidenced by some of the cuts and scars he had.

Re: Kansas SUCCESS!

Here is the buck on the gurney. The picture is pretty much what I saw from the stand, but from thirty feet up! shocked.gif

I used my climber in the woods on the left. Way down on that far end. He ended up in a 30 foot deep drainage way down on the far right. No wonder my back freakin hurts and my knees are throbbing with my heartbeat! grin.gif

Thanks carbonhunter. Public! There are acres and acres of it in the state. Just a matter of doing a bit of research and getting the tag. I was able to use a lot of resources from right here on the computer. It never ceases to amaze me at all the information you can obtain for hunts like this.

Re: Kansas SUCCESS!

Thanks. everyone!

It was a lot of work huntin'sonofagun, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It makes it that much more rewarding. I was on a couple of outfitted trips in the past and did not like the idea that I was not really doing the hunting.

Hunting in South Central Kansas is miles apart from hunting here in NJ in more ways than one. Apples and oranges, no, but very different in the approach to hunting. This was my second deer in two trips to Kansas. The first was nice 4 point I shot 3 years ago in the northeastern part of the state on public ground. That hunt too, was very rewarding despite not shooting a "monster" buck.

Yes, Dave, I am having a lot of fun this year. I love this stuff and found that not getting all wrapped up in the hype and working at it brings results we can smile about.

Here is another pic of my buck on the cart. Check out the wounds on this battler! Those black splotches below his ear are deep wounds that were pretty close to healed. He has some cuts on his nose and eyes as well a healed wound on the middle of his back. I'd love to see the buck who kicked his butt. Or did he kick it?

I had a guy tell me I should have that broken G3 replicated by a taxidermist. I think it shows character. What do you think?
