Hunting Basenji

I posted a question about this breed of hunting dog about 2 years ago and have since obtained one and trained it up. Probably the most natural hunter I have ever seen for all game. Here are a couple of pics:

Re: Hunting Basenji

Yes, they don't bark but can make some noises. Very quiet at home and especially in the field. We hunt all upland game and I take him with me for varmit hunting because his eyes and ears are so good...very little sneaks in around us.

I'm thinking of getting another one because I have a sneaking suspicion they work better in pairs or small groups.

Re: Hunting Basenji

It is dependant upon the lineage, I think. My boy is tough as nails and will take on just about anything. He got into a brawl with a 80LB pointer over a pheasant the pointer tried to take from him.

They can be one family dogs, though, and suspicious of other people unless socialized well. I just picked up a little brindel girl in Indianapolis last week and I've started the socialization process with her already.
