It does not shoot laser flat trajectories or have the powder consumption of the latest SuperSplatterMagnums, but it will shoot a 240 gr bullet with enough velocity to take a deer at close range and do it quietly as the bullets can be subsonic. If I had an urban area that I was dong cull hunts on, I would have a supressed 300 Whisper, as it would allow me to do what needed done and not bother the neighbors. Its very cool. Anyhoo, the round is a .221 Remington Fireball case necked up to accept .308" bullets. The overall length of the cartridge is short so it can be had in AR15 uppers. CorBon offers factory loaded ammo. SSK Industries will make guns chambered for the 300 Whisper. Other places such as PacNor have a reamer in 308x221. I don't know if the dimentions are identical, but I would imagine so.
