I need to get them put on but my choices are Bass Pro Shops where they will most likely bend your riser or a pro shop. I have a severe shortage of pro shops and I called my first one and they charge $30 to put them on. Now that seems a bit excessive....$10 perhaps but $30? Comeon! What do your shops charge? Not sure about cables but last string I had replaced the shop charged $5 if you bought the string from them and $10 if you bought it somewhere else and wanted them to install it. I should add that their price included reinstalling my peep and the C clips at my knock point then verifying that the arrow was still level from knock point to rest...they left the rest of the re-tuning to me but it was easy after that... In fact I know the guy that tinkers with my bow will only charge me a set up if he really needs the money, otherwise, he sets it up for a very nominal charge. I don't mind paying him at all and usually end up giving him at least $10 anyway. He looked at my bow last year and said "I don't think you even need to replace these bud." I had to have a string made for my bow and the string, installed, pep in place, etc. was around $100! We need a new pro-shop around here..... Where did you buy your strings, from from your shop or BP? My shop(local shop) didn't charge me for routine maintenance, I buy my bows from them. Tony Posted March 27, 2006 Report Share Posted March 27, 2006 Re: $30 to put on cables? it all depends on what they are doing. if like pat said they are putting peep and serving all that in , plus cam sync and peep rotation and installing a d loop or nock point. 30 bucks isnt that much. i bet you would pay less if you had bought the strings there though. most shops install them for free if you buy the strings from them. if you dont trust Bass Pro, then you had better get in with the local shop, you will be better off anyways. as long as they are a good shop. later on down the line you will see benifits from being a valued customer . I know of a lot of shops who charge for what they do right down to setting a nock point to cutting arrows. If you bought the bow in these shops you would get most of this for the loyalty, but not all. One shop calls it off the street pricing. I don't think that 30 bucks is excessive for putting strings and cables on the bow. Putting everything in "safe' shooting order. It is time and knowledge you are paying for. Like any business they are in it to make money. I don't have enough fingers on my hands to count those that are no longer in it who gave it away. I bought my winners choice string and cable from our local bow shop and they installed them and set it up for free...... They even let me shoot 60-70 arrows before setting up the string.... If you want good prices you need to atleast spend some money with them,,,, you can't really blame them, they are there to make money... They put the string on, put my peep in at the same spot, my kisser button at the same spot, and my knocks and it costs $31 and i also had them tune it and that cost $30. im not sure how them prices compare to someone else. I had the strings replaced on both of my bows this year and it only cost me $15 plus the cost of the strings. They reinstalled my nocks and retied my peep sights as well. I know of a few shops that charge $25-$35 for putting on string a cables but that also includes putting in a peep, kisser button, string leeches, and string loop.
