Found out how broadheads work so well

Well, I heard the story about how broadheads work by creating straight line cuts that are hard to heal. "Okay, if you say so" was my level of believing with that. I figured a cut is a cut.

Well, about three weeks ago, I bought my wife a set of Chicago Cutlery kitchen knives and man are they sharp. My mother-in-law stays with the kids during the day at our house and does various things to help my wife out. One of those things was loading the dishwasher the other day. So what does she do? She put these new knives POINT up in the silverware slot.

Last night I was trying to get my three year old's cup from the dishwasher--in the dark--and reached for the lid which was beside...you guessed it....the sharp pointy knife. I jammed that knife point through my thumb and it didn't stop until it hit bone. It only made about a 1/4 inch cut and however deep it is from the outside to the knuckle of the thumb.

So here is the report:

Skin 5

Bone 2 (didn't penetrate quite well enough) laugh.gif

But I can tell you that I have had impact cuts, irregular shaped cuts due to slices, a huge gash when I dragged my shin across a very sharp pipe, and now this cut due to a stab. This one hurt the worst of all of them and this one was a straight cut whereas the others were more jagged or irregular.

This one bled like a faucet and just in the time that it took to get from the dishwasher to the sink, there was blood all over that kitchen. Floor, cabinets, chopping block, my shirt, counters, faucet, and sink. It took a good 10 minutes before the bleeding stopped.

I hope Chicago Cutlary goes into the broadhead business. laugh.gif

So the long and short of it is that I can give first hand testimony of how a sharp broadhead does its work. Even with firm pressure and lots and lots of water, that straight line cut bled almost uncontrollably. So much so that I thought I was going to have to go get stitches. It was bleeding so much, I couldn't tell how big the cut was...as soon as I took it out from under the water, it was bloody all over before I could see.

I did take advantage and blood trail myself through the kitchen just for kicks during the off season. wink.gif Once I catch up to myself, I am using a Chicago Cutlery knife to field dress myself!

Cut myself pretty good the other day while making dinner. I love a sharp knife when I'm cooking, but I usually cut myself pretty good once every 2 or 3 years. Compression bandages are the way to go and just leave them, no water. Water dilutes your body's natural ability to clot. I've avoided stitches at least twice that way.

OUCH ...I love a sharp knife too, but they never go in the dishwasher. The sharp knives get hand-washed by me always. (don't trust my wife with a blade...LOL) grin.gif

Hope you heal up real quick wink.gif

I'll have to remember the name of that cutlery grin.gif

I hope they start making broadheads soon! laugh.gif

I have cut myself various ways but never stabbed myself before! I can now understand a little of what OJ did to his ex and Ron Goldman.

No one will ever put knives point up in our home again and I just thank God it was me that got it instead of my wife or kids.

Big Chicago Cutlery fan here. We have the Walnut handled steak knives and the butcher block set. They NEVER go in the dishwasher, it ruins the handles. I also treat the handles with WATCO marine teak oil, to preserve them. It's also heck on edges to throw knives in with the other silverware, and...oh yeah, it might be dangerous!

We never put real sharp knives in the dishwasher, and the knives that do go in always go blade end down.

Have cut myself pretty good with the muzzy broadheads on the fingers a time or two. Those sharp cuts do tend to bleed pretty heavily.

ROTFLMBO...Could Be!!! grin.gif

Letting the wound bleed out for a little bit is always OK...cleans it better than water could while not forcing bacteria deeper into the wound. Water running over it constantly probably kept it bleeding longer not helping in the clotting. Then apply direct pressure to stop the bleeding and a clean sterile bandage.

...or duct tape if your cut while on a construction site works too J/K

I hope your mother in law abides by that....at your house and at hers. Two years ago in northwestern Kentucky there was a grandmother loading her dishwasher and had knifes point-up. Her granddaughter came running through the kitchen playing, tripped and fell on them, and died right there in the kitchen. I'm not joking, everyone please never do this.
