Shutter
For all of you shooting digital trailcams, and for those of you in the market for buying a new commercial cam, how important is the quantity of mega pixels in your decision? The megapixel race for handheld cameras was extremely hot over the last couple of years (seems to have slowed down since hitting the 8MP mark). Is it the same for trail cams? Will you be choosing your next cam based on how many pixels it shoots? Is that as important as trigger time, flash range, and battery life? What are the new trail cams on the market shooting at now? Bond
Re: TrailCam owners, how important are megapixels? It used to be not very important to me. I had a 2 megapixel and the photos were more than ok to print out 8 x 10s. Then I got my hands on a 4 megapixel sony. I like the 4 megapixel a lot more. I didn't notice anything wrong with 2 megapixel until I got 4. 4 is really nice but I really only use that when I'm trying to get a cool picture like a hawk or a predator. If I'm just using it for scouting I set it for 3. There's a new cam that a lot of people are using to build that has 6 megapixels and an amazinng flash, but is slower than the 4 megapixel. I'd rather have speed than megapixels and flash. 4 megapixels is enough for me.
toddyboman
Re: TrailCam owners, how important are megapixels? I agree with Bond. Had a camera that had small megapixel and thought this is way better than 35mm film. (obviously) Then got a better camera with a higher megapixel and that quality was a lot better. Helps when blowing the pictures up or zooming in. But flash and trigger speed need to be good or otherwise your just getting pics of the woods and nothing in them. wtnhunt
Re: TrailCam owners, how important are megapixels? Pretty happy with the leaf rivers picture quality at 2.1 mp. Do however wish it would trigger a little faster. Battery life seems to be pretty good, and the flash is ok.
